I enjoyed this at Barley Brothers in Winnipeg. Dark with lots of roastiness and some dark chocolate element. Bitter but not crazy bitter. Nice beer! MunBro (942) - St. Albert, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 13, 2014
UPDATED: DEC 14, 2014 Wooo! Hoppy and dark. Tons of pine and citrus flavours blast through a nice roasted malt backing. Super well balanced and lots of flavour. Loving all the new Howe Sound ones. RichardW (1813) - Carlisle, Cumbria, ENGLAND - AUG 11, 2014
Litre bottle from Jasper Wine Cellar & Liquor store. Great rich spicy aroma and taste, pouring a dark brown-black. Dry and full flavoured, with chocolate and ripe fruit notes. Bitter and roast coffee finish. Excellent. tiggmtl (4545) - East York, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 10, 2012
Some chocolate and roasty character complement the floral and citrus hop aroma. Opaque dark brown body is topped by a generous and long lasting, frothy, tan-brown head that coats the sides of the glass with lacing. Dry roasty flavour with plenty of dark fruit and some chocolate and berries. Moderate bitterness. Medium full body with lovely soft bubbled carbonation and expansive bubbles that feels great in the mouth. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle purchased at Liberty on Commercial in June 2012. presario (4916) - Stampede City, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 23, 2013
Stop rating for most of a year and everything is new again. Thick off-white foam on dark reddish-brown liquid has a gathering storm quality. Sweetish aroma with hints of hickory, fruit, bark and caramel. Smooth and easy drinking with a building flavor through the sip. Best part is a tasty bitter herb hop finish with a trace of licorice.

Pint at Howe Sound brewpub in Squamish. Pours a deep brown with tan head. Aroma is hoppy but funky with malt. Taste is certainly west coast hops mixed with an almost porter like malt profile. Intriguing and complex. Would like to compare this side by side with Phillips Black Toque (Skookum) to see which is better. mcberko (17809) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 15, 2010
On tap at St. Augustine’s, pours dark brown with a reddish tinge. Subtle nose of a cross between assertive hoppiness and the roasted malt character of a porter. Flavour begins with rich roasted malts flavours like a porter and finishing with light hoppy notes and a touch of berry-like fruitiness. Really well done. wintyguy (69) - British Columbia, CANADA - APR 8, 2012
Pours very nice red/brown with a tight almost cream head. Visually a good looking beer. Taste is good good bitterness, with what I perceive to be the usual west coast IPA hop characteristics of bitter grapefruits, citrus, a lil lemon zesty somethin’. Carbonation is nice, good mouth coating. It hides the 6.8%ABV nicely, very "sessionable". Howe Sound, I’ll be back. Ekinskofer (18) - - MAR 30, 2012
Bottle. Pour is red brown. Nose is hops with a hint of nuts. Frothy tan head. Nice balanced cda hoppy with a stout mouth feel and taste. Bitter after taste that doesn’t linger. Nice work howe sound. reebtogi (6261) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JUL 23, 2012
1L swingtop bottle pours a deep amber color with a 2 and a half finger of off-white head that settles quite quickly and reveals some nice lacing rings. Aroma is citrusy with some roasted grains and caramel. Taste is caramel malty sweetness with some roasted grain and citrusy bitterness. Medium bodied with some nice carbonation leaving a nice tingle on the palate. This one is right up there with the best CDA’s that I have sampled to date.
