1 litre capped pot-stopper. Mostly clear dark brown with an amber hue, lasting creamy tan head. Aroma of toasty sweet malt and some smoke. Chocolate malt taste gives way to lightly bitter roasted lager malt, mild herbal hop, slightly nutty, hints of caramel. Soft carbonation, medium bodied, lightly hopped. Finishes clean and a bit dry, nice, but still LBW (Lagerboys Be Wary) stantheman (1050) - British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 27, 2013
On tap at Hops Northwest in New Westminster. A bit of tan head. Not quite black; slightly translucent. Re-pour into large snifter, this time getting a generous head and sweet malt on the nose. Taste is wow! Big caramel and chocolate notes here. A bit of hop astringency detected on the finish. Not very seasonal, but a great dark lager anyhow! Pours very dark brown, big tan head. Nose is roasted malt, mocha. Flavour is strongly bitter-chocolate. Well balanced. Back to mocha in the finish with the hops coming through. Black coffee at the end. One of the roastiest lagers I’ve had... kind of how I expected schwarzbiers to taste before I had one. Cool.
