Bottle 100 cl. Courtesy of fiulijn. Pours almost black with a vague reddish hue and a huge frothy, beige and lacing head with excellent retention. Heavy star aniseed dominates the nose - combined with some dark roast. Medium body, sweet hard roast malt, salty licorice but the star aniseed dominates. Sweet though - and somewhat cloying. Some malt astringency. 080411

Black color; nice fluffy, compact head. The liquorice candies aroma comes through clearly. The body is well structured; there is a good caramel flavor, the liquorice is present but not inopportune; the sweetness level is helpful; the bitterness is correct, with also some tar in the end. Well made.

Black color; creamy head. Mild liquorice aroma. Good body, dark malt flavor, moderate residual sweetness; the liquorice flavor is clearly present but not oppressive; the alcohol gives a warming feeling; strong bitterness. Liquorice is not my favorite flavor, but the beer is well brewed.
On tap at The Alibi Room’s 200th beer menu event, pours black with a thin ring of tan head. This is a monolithic beast of potent licorice, with very subtle chocolate and roasty notes. Given that I’m not a huge licorice fan, this was still a treat. Oakes (18536) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 19, 2014
Dark brown. Big liquorice aroma, anise...dame on the palate...it’s a strong, slightly oily impy with lots of rich malts and a huge anisey blast, bit of booze. Not all that refined but I don’t think that’s the point. jtclockwork (17100) - , New Jersey, USA - MAR 30, 2014
