Pours with a nice dark head, can immediately smell the licorice. Has an awesome earthy musty licorice flavour, not too sweet. I could drink this anytime.

Sammy Grey Cup 2012. Black with brown head. Big bitter black licorice aroma. Delicious black licorice flavour. Maybe my favourite Howe Sound beer.

Purchased from Liberty Wine on 10th. 1L growler shared between friends. Served in red wine glasses. Ar: Heady licorice, slightly smokey, slight alcohol. Ap: Black with strong, but thin, tan head. Leaves a decent lace pattern when done. T: Licorice, licorice, licorice, slight bitter chocolate, a little sweet, and a light roasted finish. P: Thick, creamy, puts hair on your chest. Delicious beer.

1 L swingtop bottle. Pours opaque black with a thick beige head that leaves sheeting lace. Aroma is full of licorice and that’s all I really smell. Tastes just like a bag of quality black licorice, which is a good flavor in my opinion. Starts out a little sweet before turning bitter. Mouthfeel = creamy, carbonation just right. Overall, an extreme beer that tastes good and isn’t over the top for a palate that’s ready for this type of shit. For the uninitiated, stay away.

2011-09-30. Black body with a nice foamy brown head. Pleasant aroma, modest sweet malt, licorice notes smell like a high quality licorice candy. 7+ Flavour is similar, mild sweet dark malt with a good amount of licorice flavour throughout. Very light bitterness keeps it from becoming cloying. Smooth medium to full bodied palate is nice. Solid, the licorice is pretty prominent and how much you like it will shape how much you like the beer. Personally I quite enjoy it, but its a bit much for a 1L bottle! Made for sharing. Bottle about six months old, via manuchampions

Pint at Alibi Room’s 200th list, Vancouver. I stand corrected! This is not the same beer I sampled at the brewpub. It was certainly more potent and with more intense flavours than what I had there. Pours a deep black with thin almost tan head. Aroma is smoky licorice. Taste is viscous, hug licorice hit mixed in with smoked malt and some bitterness. Lovely lingering finish. Delicious.

All licorice all the time. Pours thick and black with brown foamy head. Strong flavour of anise and chocolate with subtle hints of plum. A powerful beer worthy of its name.
