thick with coffee and chocolate undertones and a hint of black liqorice. Smooth after effect on the palate (ie not syrupy), just a nice residual flavor. I remember my first time, it was to mark a passage of time, and i could not remember if the beer was that good, or if it just fit the mood. Well the second time confirmed it, it is that good. Both experiences were form the 1L bottle with ceramic stopper. Do yourself a favor, pour a pint and sit in your favorite armchair and simply relax. katrinaez (1924) - norristown, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 10, 2017
Thick root molasses and tobacco scent. Deep blackish brown color. Taste is tobacco, anise, earthy, and molasses. Heavy malts. Mouth is not overly thick for style, but very filling in general. Bottle. zathrus13 (1776) - Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA - FEB 25, 2017
Bottle. Pours dark brown, with a light brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, molasses, chocolate, and coffee. Flavor is roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, molasses, and a little alcohol. Medium to heavy body, with a long, bitter finish. AleRider78 (1046) - Winchester, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 20, 2017
Huge 1 litre bottle from LCBO, with a swing top ceramic stopper. Pours a huge frothy cocoa coloured head. Has an extremely dark brown appearance, bordering on black. Head sticks around pretty long. Aromas of chocolate, coffee, nuts, mocha and dark roasted malts. Almost a bit bready and toasty. Flavours are fairly strong, quite similar to aromas with emphasis on chocolates and coffee. Somewhat sweet on the palate. Hints of mocha, nuts and a bit of caramel. Nice creamy mouthfeel. Has a warming sensation. Dark chocolatey aftertaste. Really good stuff. Don’t really taste alochol for an extra strong beer. Yummy!

A pitch black color with a moderate tan head. The aroma contains some espresso, chocolate, and molasses. The flavor lends itself on the sweet side of imperials with more espresso, milk chocolate, and molasses Only a slight bit of bitterness in the aftertaste to keep it from being too sweet. Overall a really nice one. GRM (4020) - Aylmer, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 20, 2016

Bouteille brune, 1 l, via Erik-P - CANBIF octobre 2016 (thank you!), savourée le 20 novembre 2016; œil : réglisse, opaque, anneau de mousse moka, légère dentelle; nez : malt torréfié, café, vanille, sauce soya, chocolat; bouche : malt torréfié, café, vanille, chocolat, âcreté de torréfaction, houblon amérisant, finale curieusement amère avec bonne présence de café, corsée, carbonatation moyenne, plutôt amère, très légèrement sucrée, texture légèrement huileuse et légèrement râpeuse; en résumé : bien aimé Pumpkin87 (248) - - NOV 18, 2016
Pours black with foamy espresso head that reduces slowly and leaves nice lacing and skim.
Aroma is dark: roast barley, blackberries, molasses, pumpernickel, coffee, leather. Palate keeps all those, especially the coffee, and adds dark chocolate, anise, burnt toast. A bit of cola fizz and vanilla come through as it warms.
There’s more than enough hop bitterness, but it blends into the coffee undertone. Medium body is less viscous than the name suggests, but it goes down easy with manageable 9 percent ABV. Dry, slightly acidic finish. Dorwart (2585) - Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA - OCT 1, 2016
Decent sized medium brown head of dense and creamy bubbles. Leaves a nice thick sheet of lacing as it reduces. Rich and malty aroma with some sweet malts, lactose, dark roasted grains and molasses. Color is a very dark brown boardering on black. Relatively thick and chewey mouthfeel. Lots of sweet malts, roasted grains, burnt toast, molasses, a hunt of anise and some mild coffee late swallow. Mild alcohol presence for a 9% brew. Soft mouthfeel and a pretty clean finish with a hint of oaky tartness and sweet lactose. Nit a bad imperial stout. And comes is a very cool swing top 1 liter bottle. Good times!! beerplace (1603) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 23, 2016
UPDATED: SEP 7, 2016 On tap at Devil’s Elbow with Mark. Nitro. Pours almost black, beige head. Aroma is dark fruits, leather, saddle, roasted malt. Same taste with oily notes. Very roasted and oily. Amazing!
