DATE: October 14, 2016... OCCASION: after watching LVR defeat Hackettstown, time to warm up... GLASSWARE: Schneider Edel-weisse pokal...dense, dark brown amber body that allows little light through... tough to discern effervescence... head is one-finger, off-white and solid in its consistency... nutmeg, pumpkin, cinnamon, clove, and some licorice provide a cornucopia of aromas... the palate is easy-drinking, with some activity up front and a slight warming return... the flavor profile is decidedly cinnamon and nutmeg, with licorice, clove and pumpkin, as advertised... overall, a fine, albeit understated, ale that clocks in at 8%... I like its flavor profile, its balance, and its easy warming feeling... love the fact it comes in a quart bottle with a stopper--not that I will stop until it is finished!

Bottle. Cloudy, orange in color with a small head. Aroma is nutmeg, cinnamon and other pumpkin pie aromas. Taste is rich in flavor, like a pumpkin pie in a bottle.

Draught @ Mugs Ale House. Murky reddish brown with very small frothy off-white head, pumpkin aroma with some liquor smell, low carbonation, initially sweet caramel like taste with pumpkin flavor with alcohol undertones, thin body, medium caramel-pumpkin finish. Not bad, kind of a caramelized-pumpkin ale.

If you see this beer, buy it. Pours brown with auburn-orange highlights and a small tan head, which leaves slight lacing. Big vegetal aroma, squash first followed by sweet potato pie, a calling card much more pronounced than the nose of most "pumpkin" beers. On the palate, that coalesces into a pumpkin pie, with a bit of brown sugar sweetness upfront but unfiltered pumpkin underneath. The expected spices show up in turn, recognizably, and blend into a greater whole. That spice array contributes some dryness, and at moments is a bit more munchy than smooth. But overall, the spices are well-gauged to offset the sweetness and help produce a balanced taste that is what I, at least, have in mind for a seasonal pumpkin brew. If you are unfamiliar with this Canadian brewery, it is an originator of craft beer in North America, and it hasnt lost a step. While not quite the festive dancer that McAuslans St. Ambroise Citrouille remains, this beer is just a half-step behind alongside Schlaflys Pumpkin Ale and Rumking (whatever its called these days) as a pumpkin brew worth seeking out. Bring me more!

Aroma is gingerbread, pumpkin pie, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice. The appearance is a Carmel / Amber. Very little head retention and some spotty lacing. Taste is as the aroma would suggest: gingerbread, pumpkin, clove, allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, biscuit, blackstrap molasses. Palate is a lot thinner than I would have guessed although I would say it is medium-bodied. Little to no head retention with below average carbonation. Overall, a damn good pumpkin beer. Probably one of the better examples I have tried. The spices are balanced, the alcohol is well hidden and the pumpkin is on point. Recommended.

Sample 1/16/16 (Binnys Downers Grove)-Pours a darker brown with a small head. Aroma of pumpkin and spices. Taste of the same but a bit weak for an Imperial IMO. This medium bodied brew was not bad.

Rating #1317 - On tap @revolutionyeg. Pours a darker brown, that produces a bubbly foam. Aroma is potent alcohol, lots of toasted pumpkin seed and cinnamon, caramel malt. Taste is malty, lots of sweet and grainy notes, and a heavy fleshy pumpkin flavour. ABV is a little messy here.
