Draught at the brewpubmcberko (19858) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 9, 2010
Dark mahogany color. It has some roasted malt aroma. The flavor mixes caramel and roasted malt, creamy; it’s mild, inoffensive, with a medium-low bitterness. Not interesting.
On tap at the Alibi Room, pours a dark brown with a reddish tinge. Light aroma of hops and barley. Flavour is mostly roasted malt and nuts. Oakes (19426) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 5, 2005
Dark brown, rich natural head. Flavourful, earthy, lightly toffeeish body. Smooth, rounded maltiness - they didn’t overdo it on the dark malts like a lot of brown ales I’ve had the past few years. Malty, satisfying brown. bhensonb (15969) - Woodland, California, USA - FEB 10, 2011
Capped 1L swingtop from Ledger’s. Pours pretty dark brown with a foamy tan head. Aroma is rather nuts and cocoa. Med body. Flavor is nuts and threads of cocoa. Finishes with a touch of brown sugar, but it’s a little astringent and fairly dry. Nice flavor, mod. ABV, it’s a session beer. BeerandBlues2 (14018) - Escondido, California, USA - MAY 10, 2013
Tap at Charcut. Pours clear brown with a medium, creamy tan head, medium-light retention with good lacing. Aroma is nutty, chocolate, and toast malt with dates and faint earthy hops. Flavor is malt dominant with light hops and bitterness and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

This has been around a while. Enjoyed on tap at the brewpub. Brown coloured body, lacey. The aroma is nutty and rootbeerish. Licorice taste. Average mouthfeel, suitably carbonated. Decent drinkability. deyholla (12588) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - MAR 18, 2012
Big thanks to Lizzie! Pours a hazy light amber brown with a gray brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of chocolate and nuttiness with a backing licorice and a but of deep dark grain. Flavor begins with a bit of sweet grains and chocolate with a nutty finish. Clear brown, almond head with moderate retention. Low caramel, faintly nutty aroma. A little chocolatey, a little nutty, approachable. Unfortunately a little on the thin side for me, but that may be because it was preceded by some bigger beers earlier in the evening. Not bad. Deep brown beer topped with a thin white head. Nice sweet toasty aroma. Sweet nuttiness, a bit earthy with light toffee, a hint of chewy sweetness. Flavour is pretty well-developed. Brown sugar, light toffee, some earthiness. Sweet nutty finish. A hint of spicy hops toward the finish. Nice balance. jonas (8280) - Garching close to the monks, GERMANY - DEC 9, 2007
bottle. Beautiful ruby brown, creamy brown head. Roasted, light sour nose. Lives up to its name, nutty roasted, light caramel notes. Chewy body mellow mouthfeel. Chocolate, roast aftertaste. Quite nice.
