Bottle at the RB Awards; not sure who shared it, but I’ll guess Ferris based on the origin of the beer. Thanks again, Ferris! December 2012 vintage. Pours a hazy amber with a finger of beige head that eventually settles into a ring, lasting film, and some lace in the glass. Dark fruits - too much, really - with caramel, brown sugar, and fruitcake. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet, fruity mouthfeel. Drinks like its age. cmacklin (1306) - Lethbridge, Alberta, CANADA - FEB 14, 2016
375ml bottle. (2014 release) Pours a cloudy, dark reddish brown with a small, short lived, beige head that fully dissipates. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, bread, overripe fruit and wood. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, roasted malt, overripe fruit, bread, wood and a hint of chocolate malt with a dry, bitter, warming alcohol finish. Full body with a smooth, oily texture and soft carbonation. Very nice, a pleasant surprise. DSG (15237) - Tel Aviv, ISRAEL - FEB 12, 2016
UPDATED: FEB 24, 2016 [1/30/16] Bottle sample at the Encomium bottle share, after RateBeer Best awards ceremony at Hyatt Vineyard Creek Hotel in Santa Rosa. Thanks everyone who shared bottles! December 2012 bottle. Murky amber. Malt, fruits, sweet, caramel. b3shine (9143) - Indiana, USA - JAN 30, 2016
Bottle to taster. Looks solid; a cloudy caramelish brown with lighter beige head that slowly but steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells malty, boozy, and lightly toasty with a prominent bittersweet backbone. Tastes like it smells with a medium full-bodied mouthfeel. Decent, but underwhelming. Bottle at RBWG 2016 nose is lightly anise and dried fruit. Some lactic r notes it seems. Taste is lightly roasty. With a hint of licorice. Interesting. NeuroPliny (247) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 24, 2015
2014 release. Pours cloudy mahogany with a tan head. Nose is caramel, dark dried fruit, brown sugar, and roasted malts. Flavour is fig, raisin, caramel, bread, and roasted malt. Maybe a bit too much like a fruitcake but perfect for sipping in front on the Christmas tree. vadie (1257) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 20, 2015
Weezel (280) - Florida, USA - NOV 14, 2015
Pleasant aroma of dark fruits and sweet caramelized malt. Pours a hazy deep amber. Cloudy and rustic. Deep flavors of raisins, dates, and a nutty finish. Carbonation a bit lovely but plays well with the finish. 2013 vintage. blomster (289) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - JUL 24, 2015
Bottle from Dec 2012.
Aroma and taste of dried fruits, caramel. Bit of heat from the alcohol. Smooth. Tasty beer that has aged well.
