Shaner D and I doing the live circuit at Beer fest, alternating the spro and stout: “Let’s make a beer with shocking polarity.” “Black on black” I agreed. Tommy D, always the conductor, kept us grounded with his three-pronged wisdom: “Like love, boys, it starts with a spark. When the field is fully charged, flip the switch: Voltage!”

DuffMan (10422) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 1, 2017
Bottle, shared with Parksy and others. Very dark brown with amber highlights. Dark raost coffee doiminates the nose and palate, along with ashy bitter black malt. The flavours are ok, but the body is thin.

3.4
AgentAle (1743) - Alberta, CANADA - MAR 26, 2017
Fairly subtle aroma of caramel, toasted oats and espresso. On the body is some caramel, roasted malts and toffee. Finishes with a faint bitterness. Pretty sessionable. Appearance is black with a creamy pearl head that retains well.

reebtogi (6261) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 7, 2016
650ml bottle pours black in color with a finger and a half of light brown head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is coffee and dark roasted grains with some chocolate notes. Taste is a coffee and roasted grain bitterness with a chocolate malty sweetness. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Overall, the taste is fine, but this brew is a little thin in the body for this style.

3.2
pushkinwow (2789) - Ottawa, CANADA - NOV 30, 2016
Bottle from GRM. Dark mahogany pour with a beige head. Slightly stale espresso, nutty and toasted malts, dry, some milk, moderate carbonation and body, becomes dried and more grindy on the finish, also seems to thin out a bit.

3.6
Boutip (6374) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 24, 2016
Bottle: Poured a light black color stout with a brown foamy head with good carbonation and light lacing. Aroma of floral espresso notes with some light roasted malt. Taste is a nice mix between some espresso notes with some light roasted alt and some lactose-like sugar notes. Body is light but has a nice creamy texture with good carbonation. A bit thin but I enjoyed the espresso notes in this beer.

3.2
Lubiere (13898) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 18, 2016
A deep dark stout with a thin mocha head. In aroma, woody chocolate malt, pea notes, OK. In mouth, a nice bitter chocolate with light coffee notes, light nutty notes, light mineral notes, nice and smooth. Bottle from GRM at his place.

solidfunk (8941) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - DEC 25, 2015
Some light cream and a little coffee. Not a lot to this. Light roast. Black pour with great mocha head and lacing. Bottle my dad bought.

3.4
dresden (1581) - Saskatchewan, CANADA - DEC 10, 2014
Draft at cascade room. Black and thin. A nice coffee aroma, some roast as well. Flavour of the coffee is nice, but the beer itself is lacking, watery, some roasty malt but subdued. Could do worse but...

3.4
Ferris (15259) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 28, 2014
Draft - Dark roast and light coffee bean. Deep brown black with a decent light brown head. Roasty and lots of coffee bean. A bit thin on the palate but flavours are nice.
