Our oatmeal stout is so named for the 10% oat content of the grist. As you taste this beer you will find coffee and dark chocolate as the dominating flavors with a slightly sweet finish.

Pours an oily opaque with dark mahogany edges and a thin, stringy tan head. Aroma of lightly sweet toasty dark caramel and roasted malts with some coffee notes. Body starts with decent fullness and sticky sweet dark malts with a good balance of bittering hops and roasty coffee before a drier, bittersweet finish. A pretty nice oatmeal stout.

Pours a black color with a brown head. Aroma is dark burnt malts, roast, chocolate, oatmeal, caramel, and some earthy notes. Flavor is malty, burnt ashy grain, coffee, caramel, roast, and a bitter roasty finish.

Thanks to LawStudent09. Black color with a thin head. Nice and sweet oatmeal aroma. Grainy flavor, followed by chocolate, coffee and some lactose. A little more dry than expected, but tasty enough.

Bottle sampled at DLD 2008: Deep brown hue with a creamy beige head and spotty lace. The aroma has notes of oatmeal, chocolate and dark malts, raisin and prune, grassy and a hint of lacto vapours as well. The taste has a twangy fruit and lactic sourness at first supported by a mellow milk chocolate and black malt background. Seems far too bitter overall for the style (methinks more of a dry stout than sweet). The mouth feel is dry and chalky. Paint by numbers offering and somewhat forgettable.

Sampled from a 12-oz bottle at Cellars Wine & Spirits in St Paul, Minnesota and shared by LawStudent09. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a very thin tan head that quickly dissipates clean and no lacing. Aroma of toasted dark malt, some coffee and dark chocolate with a touch of oatmeal and flowery hops. Taste is slightly metallic with light carbonation. Flavors of toasted dark chocolate malt, coffee, a touch of green vegetables and some grassy hops. Finish remained a little metallic and semi-dry with a toasted dark malt aftertaste that lingered around after the finish. A little dry for a sweet stout but still drinkable.

On tap at the brewery. Thick, dark black, some tan head. Strong roasted aroma, some coffee, some biscuit. Big roasted, almost burnt flavor. Somewhat dry. Creamy and smooth palate. Not bad, though quite roasty for a stout.

12oz bottle from Badbeer. Pours black with a crisp brown head, no lace. Smells subdued, roasty malts and alcohol. Tastes roasty, malty bitter. Pretty bland actually, somewaht watery tasting. Thin bodied, very dry, active carbonation.

Perfectly black body with a light khaki head. The aroma is strong coffee with some dark chocolate hints. There is not much else to smell in this roasty brew. The taste has some fresh green beans and cheap coffee. There is also burnt toast and anise. This doesnt taste like any sweet stout I have tried, its more like a robust porter, in my opinion. A decent beer.

UPDATED: MAY 2, 2008 12oz bottle purchased at Johns Grocery in Iowa City. Poured an opaque black color. Head was thick and light brown with good retention and lacing. Aroma was predominantly of chocolate with hints of hay, molasses, and charcoal. Dry for the most part, especially when sampled side by side with their brown ale. Fairly roasty with mild to moderate bitterness on the back of the tongue. I tasted a bit of cola and there was an almost whipped cream note at the end. Pretty good.

UPDATED: JUL 28, 2010 Pours black with a tan head, nice lacing. Aroma of coffee, oat, maple syrup, and brown sugar. Flavor is similar, lighter than expected. Coffee is in the background, slightly bitter chocolate notes as well. Has a good amount of carbonation but still maintains some creaminess. Finishes slightly dry, I could session this. Tasty! And we stopped carrying these guys because theyve had infection issues for about two year. Gross.
