COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Bock to our lips and spring to our souls." The "Festival Bock" name is a tribute to Bockfest, an Over-the-Rhine celebration that pays homage to Cincinnati’s spring traditions of bock beer and bockwurst. Generous amounts of Munich and Vienna malts are used to achieve a rich caramel flavor with just enough German hops to balance the malt.

UPDATED: MAR 28, 2017 Shaker pint draft at the Christian Moerling Brewing Co. Malt House in Cincinnati Ohio. This beer was listed as “Hudy Bock” on the menu board. The pour is a clear dark brown copper with a small tan head. The aroma is sweet caramel, nut, and some grass. The taste is the sweet malt, caramel toffee, grass with a mineral, clean finish. The palate is light bodied with active carbonation and a dry sweet malty mineral finish. Nice Bock.

Bottle to half-pint glass. Looks good; a transparent amberish caramel with off-white head that dissipates into lacing pretty quickly. Smells sweet and malty with notes of caramel, candy, and a touch of bread. Tastes like it smells, only more robust and well-balanced, and without the bread. Pleasant on the palate. A good example of the style.

Malty aroma with coffee and roasted nuts. Appearance is dark with a decent head. Taste is lightly bitter. Medium body with creamy texture and average carbonation. Finish is nice, not bitter. For a beer that retails for $6.99 for a 6 pack, this beer is pretty nice. I could drink again and again.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a clear dark copper with a one finger white head. Ok head retention but not really much in the way of lacing. Aroma has a good bit of cooked caramel along with a certain corn character. Some burnt toast and metal. The flavor is quite sweet right off the bat along with a large amount of caramel. Burnt toast and toffee along with the same metal that was present in the aroma and is a bit distracting. Bitterness is light but the sweetness is not and that is something I found a little unpleasant. The sweetness really hinders drinkability and almost becomes cloying at times. Overall, a fairly poor excuse for a bock. The sweetness is a bit extreme and the metallic taste is bad. Not really one I would pick up again.

Clear medium amber with a persistent head and light streaks of lace. Taste is mostly sweet caramel malt. Midway through the palate carbonation enters to provide an edge that brings things into balance at the finish. A lot of flavor, but pretty one-dimensional.

Pint on tap at Arnold’s during Bockfest 2013, $5. Totally clear, dark amber color. Much lighter in color than the Schoenling Bock I just had before it. Great creamy creme-colored head, with great retention. Looks good, at least from the top. Flavor is distinctly on the macro-side, though. A metallic kind of skunky macro bite in the finish, especially at first, but it mellows out after a good bit of pretentious swishing and time to sit and warm. Much smoother during the second half, but maybe the bocks were getting to me. Good lace. Light bitter sweet taste. Light toasty malt, little dark fruit. Lightly earthy. Mild hop. Mostly just kind of watered down. Alright bock.

Draft at Arnold’s for Bockfest 2013. Pours a semi-cloudy bright orange-amber with a finger of off-white head. Malty aroma but the malts are hard to distinguish from one another; some toast and caramel. Flavor has toasty and caramel malts along with brown sugar. Long, sweet malty finish. Light-medium bodied, with medium carbonation and a coating mouthfeel. Decent bock.

Bottle to snifter. Red-amber...thin tan head. Slight toffee nose,....a little vegetable note..... Taste is sweetly malted, toffee, buttery, feel is sugary, sticky....rich. High quality.... believe it. Well done beer.
