TAR (2787) - Blue Ridge Mountains, North Carolina, USA - APR 18, 2017
Bottle best by June 1, 2016, consumed Nov. 2015: Clear garnet. Fine but broken off-white head. Papery and waxy nose, with underlying prune juice, brown sugar, pumpernickel bread, chocolate, caramel and wet carpet. Discordant leaves a foamy residue on the palate. Opens with notes of overripe plums and medicinal characteristics. Poorly extracted malt predominates with paper and soggy cereal notes. Incessant gritty sugars greatly hamper drinkability. Finishes cola sugary with some cardboard and unwelcome raisiny flavors lingering. Zero discernible hops to help with balance. A fairly dirty and underattenuated (semi-worty, in this case) Franconian dark lager. Unpleasant.

pivnizub (10813) - Bochum, Porř, GERMANY - JUN 14, 2016
Bottle: Unclear, deep amber coloured, unclear, big creamy and lacy off-white head; moderate clean caramelly-fruity nose with a slight herbal bitterness in the background;moderate bitter-sweet flavour, creamy MF; lingering fruity-malty and herbal-hoppy finish. Well rounded, well balanced franconian Dunk’l...

Beerhunter111 (22513) - P´Castle, GERMANY - FEB 19, 2016
50cl bottle. Pours clear orange brown colour with a mid-sized most good lasting beige head. Aroma of toasted dark malt, caramel, some chocolate. Taste of mild roasted malt, floral hops, some chocolate, good one!

3fourths (9358) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - NOV 22, 2015
Bottle best by June 2016. Lightly hazed dark maroon-brown body with a short tan colored head. Aroma is malt-dominant with notes of roasted grain, peanuts, dirty dish water, compost / soil, autolyzed yeast. Medium-light bodied, sweet and sharp with low bitterness and noticeable burnt grain astringency on the palate that tastes like burnt pancake batter, finishing slightly sour.

Icedwarf (1804) - Etten-Leur, NETHERLANDS - AUG 21, 2015
Lichtbruin bier met weinig schuim. Scmaak is licht rokig en licht caramel en zoethout, niet zoet. Erg goed bier. Gedronken op terras bij Schöngroundsee Pottenstein.

Marheb (6193) - San Diego, California, USA - NOV 4, 2014

MartinT (10036) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 17, 2014
My Bottom Line:
Light diacetyl emboldens this Dunkel’s raisiny malts, as earthy hops and maple toffee continue developing the sugary profile.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy sheet of foam covers the cloudy brown.
-Drinkability is relatively high despite the sugar content.
-This is not a dialed-in Dunkel at all.
-Minerality is quite high, as it seems to be in most Pottenstein-area brews.

On tap at the brewpub.

BeerViking (5048) - Brentford, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 16, 2013
On tap at the brewpub. Dried fruit and malt. Dry bitter, deep brown, looks great, full bodied and tasty.

Mariusz (12082) - Baden-Baden, GERMANY - SEP 16, 2012
Pours red-brown with a light tan head. Aroma of caramel malts with a little nuttiness plus floral hops.
