It’s rather hazy, dark mahogany-red with a small, creamy head, and the aroma has notes of caramel, nuts, roasted malt, light cocoa and straw. The flavour is moderately sweet with notes of roasted malt, caramel, straw, cocoa and licorice, and the finish is dry and slightly bitter – it’s a delicious dunkel.

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of fonefan. Pours a clear nutty brown with a small beige head. Soft roasty nose. Medium body, burned caramel and roast with some late hoppiness. Well made bordering a Schwarzbier. 011211

Draught at the brewpub as Bio Dunkel. Weak horse blanket aroma. Cloudy dark brown colour. OK stable off-white head. The flavour is quite roasted with a bit more horse or perhaps just stable. Has a fruity hint as well, which I do not enjoy much, but all in all a flavourful and interesting beer.

Oakes (17685) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 6, 2009
Cloudy chestnut. Rustic nose, but in a toasty kind of way. Has some farmy complexity. Very toasty character, almost burnt. Pretty cool, actually, as an assertive take on the concept. Finishing dry and abrasively toasty.
