Bottle. Deep golden colour with an off-white head. Aroma is fruit,, malt, hop. Flavour is fruit, malt, hop, caramel, pine. Ordinary beer.

Fresh bottle. Burnt orange. Broken foam forms a puffy collar. Average nose of fennel seed, nutty yeast, honeyed biscuit, earthy malt, and unwelcome notes of cola and caramel chews. Seltzery, highly active carbonation. Very basic blend of caramelly and papery malt is met by deeper and crisper Munich and a dash of peppery hops. Comes off as fairly soulless, especially for the style, as there’s no sulfur or strong mineral presence. Pils malt reveals some deep hay dust and even hints at poundcakey melanoidins at times, but the papery aspects keep the richness from taking foothold. Although the finish is very wet, a salvaging toastiness and nutty pecan characteristic emerges alongside pictachiolike yeastiness. Doesn’t come across as being totally fraudulent like 99% of other bottled zoigls, as there is some malt sophistication here. But in the end, the feisty carbonation and straightforwardness makes it pretty unmemorable.

Bottle from the brewery best by April 2015. Clear dark brown with a fine tan colored head. Nutty, malty nose shows faint signs of oxidation as copper pennies and cardboard. Little to no aroma hops though bittering are evident. Rich and chewy body, semi-sweet with caramel and cola maltiness and peppery finishing hops. The richness is nice, carbonation adequately froths to fullness washing away cara malt sugar and leaving nutty oils in the mouth. Decent texture and flavor balance but the nose isn’t very expressive. Thanks to erzengel for the bottle!! Pours a clear amber/browb with a fizzy tan head. The smell is earthy toasted malt, mild fruit. The taste is brown sugar, toasted malt, mild herb - quite sweet. Bouteille: Amber to deep amber, hazy, medium-sized relatively quickly collapsing loose off-white head; caramel and dark fruits in the sweet nose, even traces of chocolate detectable; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, nearly medium bodied and pretty soft; molecular hops, traces of dried fruits and caramel in the finish, followed by a slight bitter aftertaste. (bottle) Hazy, mahogany colour with a medium-sized and slightly tanned foamy head. Distinctively nutty and slightly toasted malty aroma with notes of caramel and a whiff of molasses. Moderately sweet and delicately bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Toasty malt-character with nutty notes, caramel and shy herbal hoppy notes; sweet and slightly bitter finish with nutty malt and a tinge of herbal hops. Good one. 02.IV.14
