Huvila Arctic Circle Ale is a chestnut coloured ale with a malty/fruity odour. It tastes of dark fruits and caramel malts and finishes off with a nice bitter hop tail. It is brewed with both juniper twigs and a large dose of Finnish attitude. It is available on tap an in bottles in bars and restaurants across Finland. The beer has also featured among the seasonal Christmas beers at Alko, the Finnish monopoly retail distributor of beers with more than 4.7% Alc. Dark mahogany colored with medium sized light brown head. Rich spicy aroma with licorice and some sour juniper as well, thin roastiness also comes up. Medium bodied. Flavor is more on a dry side with still spices and licorice dominating, some dry cardboardy and vegetably note comes up as well. Aftertaste is dry still with some sour juniper and drying hopped touch.

The first Finnish craft beer I’ve tasted. Quite nice, almost a barley wine I would say. Dark iced tea appearance, very little head. Sweet malty, dried fruit aroma. Taste is sweet and malts with a bit of citrus hop bite. Kind of thin palate, but coating.

Pours dark brown with a small frothy off white top. Aroma is sweet caramel malt, spice and earthy hop. Taste is peppery, juniper, malt sweetness and an earthy hop bitterness. It’s really bitter actually. Interesting.

Bottle. Brown with off-white head. Aroma is sweet with a light sour cellulose thing to it. Otherwise notes of almonds, marzipan, malt, yeast, leather. Vinous. Taste is a bit watery at first but some alcohol sweetness kicks in. Notes of burnt caramel, plums, toffee, spices. Ends bitter. Interesting stuff that I need to try again.

Pours a hazy copper colour with amber highlights. The head is frothy, bubbly, warm-beige, lasts long and gives out creamy-bubbly lacing. Big aromas of dates, caramel, raisins, nuts, hits of smoke and wood. The burnt malt shows up in the taste all the way. Spices and some nice bitterness, creating a good dryness in the finish. Seems like Juniper lingering with coffee notes. Quite a pleasant brew to try. Like a mild smokey stout with light spices.

Bottle picked up somewhere in Denver. Great woody/spicy juniper aroma. Taste is more subtle, dark and earthy. Would love another.

Flaske: Mudre brun let diset farve med et flot skumhoved. Duften er kraftig maltet med en smule sukker. Smagen er meget maltet men stadig godt frisk grundet en fin humling. Fin øl men ikke til at falde i svime over.
