500 ml bottle from Bevmo. Pours a murky brown color with a small beige head that soon recedes to a fine film. The aroma is strong with sweet malts, rye breads and that which I guess is the juniper twigs. The flavor is sweet malts forward with caramel malts, spices, nutty biter hops and rye. The palate is smooth and the carbonation is soft. Finishes medium in duration with lingering juniper. Overall: A boldly flavored brew--This one really grew on me as i drank it, my hats off to the brewer. OldMrCrow (2437) - Seattle, Washington, USA - APR 29, 2009

Wow, this one kicks ass. What a pleasant surprise! Deep brown pour, hazy, nice light-tan head. Sweet, molasses-brown-bread with agar aroma. Sweet flavor, brown sugar / molasses and raisin, but under it a nice juniper spiciness and resin that I find both a surprising complement to a sweet dark ale and a very successful complement. Great mouthfeel, no heat, extremely drinkable. It’s sweet (recalling some of the other dark beers from Scandinavia) but if one takes that in stride it’s a really neat piece of brewing. I’m delighted to have had the chance to try this one.
Overall: Sweet caramel, christmas pudding, raisins, madeira. Nice.Psytron (2285) - Turku, FINLAND - JUL 26, 2013

Mild i humlen og ikke ret meget sødme i den. Den kunne godt have været bedre i eftersmagen. Saeglopur (2178) - Vienna Woods, AUSTRIA - MAR 11, 2017

Dark copper body, with a medium, creamy, beige head.
Aroma of vegetables, smoke, spices, cocoa, sour berries, tobacco.
Tastes of smoke, sour berries, cocoa, caramel, tobacco, some liquorice, spices, some hops.
Medium, oily mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes spicy, dry, smokey, subtly sweet, with cocoa, some liquorice, some fruits.
Nice one. I don’t like the nose too much, pretty strange. Taste is quite nice though, with an interesting smokey, fruity and malty mix. Interesting stuff, while not something I would drink too often.
Sweet, malty and spicy with a tinge of juniper. I really like juniper and Sahti, so I just wish that there was a stronger juniper character if anything. The beer pours a purplish brown, translucent but quite dark, with a creamy off-white head. The aroma is spicy and malty with notes of hops and juniper. It’s more along the lines of an English Strong Ale with a bit of holiday spice. The malt has a really nice flavor, like a good barleywine. There are fruit notes, raspberries and plums, mixed with brown sugar and rum. The juniper is light and woody. The hops (or maybe it’s just bitterness from the juniper twigs) are relatively strong. There’s a fair bite in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is full and round. A very enjoyable little nightcap.
