COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Huvila Arctic Circle Ale is a chestnut coloured ale with a malty/fruity odour. It tastes of dark fruits and caramel malts and finishes off with a nice bitter hop tail. It is brewed with both juniper twigs and a large dose of Finnish attitude. It is available on tap an in bottles in bars and restaurants across Finland. The beer has also featured among the seasonal Christmas beers at Alko, the Finnish monopoly retail distributor of beers with more than 4.7% Alc. Arctic Circle Ale is also imported into the US through Shelton Brothers.

Smells nice if slightly subdued, malty, smoky, caramel, bread on the aroma. Dark brown, muddy, little head. Not very pretty. Tastes interesting and unique, upfront smoky and medicinal flavors, finishes with anise, a caramel sweetness and a leafy hop bitterness. A bit too sweet for my taste & not superbly balanced, but unique. Medium bodied and average carbonation.

Bottled (thanks to Markku for this one!). Hazy deep brown colour, mediumsized beige creamy head. Nice lace. Aroma is lots of plum, raisins and some wooden notes. Mild juniperlie notes as well. Flavour is plum, spices, alcohol, sweet malts as well as some wood, licorice and toffee. Interesting and rather different from the otherwise not-too-experimental Huvila. As it warms up it gets quite ashy notes in the flavour as well.

(bottle - 500 ml) Ruby red color with a fizzy off-white head. Aroma is loaded with hints of pine, juniper, malts, and caramel. Flavor is much the same. A good amount of pine and sweet malts at the beginning with a malty and light chocolate middle coming quick behind it. Fruity and piney at the finish with a light sweetness that lingers.

Murky chestnut pour reveals some sticky lacing left by a 1/2 inch eggshell head. Aroma of raisin, brown sugar, and spice. Flavor is buttermilk biscuit, honey, roasted malt and only the slightest inclusion of juniper. Medium mouthfeel. Tasty.

500ml Bottle: Aroma of malt, slight fruit, slight dark ripe fruit, light plum, slight raisin, slight bread, light burnt caramel, and a hint of wood. Poured brown/orange in color with a small to medium-sized, tan head that diminished but lasted throughout. Cloudy. Sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of malt, light juniper, light wood, bitter hops, burnt caramel, slight resin, and a hint of dark ripe fruit. Full body. Thick, slightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Malt, wood, and bitter hop finish is slightly dry.
