COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Artevelde Grand Cru features a dark red-brown colour, a firm, creamy, and cream-coloured head. The smell of roasted malt, caramel and the sweet fruitiness of the alcohol give this beer the perfect aroma. Caramel, sweet fruitiness and a pleasant bitterness are the predominant flavours. Its aftertaste reveals a pinch of toffee and date. Ingredients: water, barley malt, hops, yeast. Triple fermented.

33cl bottle from Hopduvel, Ghent. A deep reddish brown colour with a billowing beige head that settles back to a thin covering; sour grainy aroma with some caramel in the background; soft and smooth in the mouth with a taste of dates and burnt sugar; then a warming fruity finish, with lingering dates. A pleasant beer to sip slowly.

33cl bottle at home (22 V 2016). Extremely gushing brew, although with a swiftly diminishing foamy yellow to beige, unstable head. The beer’s colour is pretty dark brown to black, coffee looking even, yet very clear and vivid. The nose has clear Belgian yeast features, with some brown sugar, rosewater and malt notes too. The mouthfeel is more than a that oxidated, not really enjoyable, but the sugarish and malt flavours come to save the brew. Fairly sweet and somehow sticky, with a nice alcoholic body - although I believe this body is a bit faint or waterish. Not that complex, to say at least. The bitter tones are perfect, the slightly creamy ending is more than nice. There are a few fruit flavours in here as well, very well hidden behind the caramellish, sweetish armour. A nice brew - yet it keeps on being a Huyghe brew.

Marron rojiza. Espuma manchada, efervescente.

330ml bottle in Blaendulais, gold foil, 7.3%, BB Dec 2017. Thanks Sarah. As ’Artevelde Grand Cru’. Very dark reddy brown, pretty clear, sparkling, thin bubbly tan head. Aroma is red grape juice, candi sugar, touch of cherry, a little musty. Body is light, foamy, tingly carbonation. Too foamy and a touch rough on the stomach. Taste is a little medicinal, sweet, some plum and raisin, soft finish with some booze. Not bad overall.
