Had this on tap at the Hyde Park Brewing Company. Somewhat bitter with a malt character. Nice aroma with a hops smell to it.

Pours a fairly faint yellow with a thin head and leaves some lacing. Not a lot going on in terms of taste. I was expecting some sort of hop expression but all i got was this astringent thing. Very disapointing!

Location: Draft at the Brewpub, 10/2/10

Aroma: The nose has caramel/toffee malts along with a bit of hops, a fairly light nose
Appearance: This one is a clear orange color-red beer with a head that leaves light lace on the glass
Flavor: The taste is fairly balanced, subtle, with a light malty sweetness and some hops as well
Palate: The body is light to medium, it has an alright mouthfeel, but it thins out a bit as it goes
Overall Impression: Overall this reminded me of a something between a simple, standard ESB and a low hop English style IPA. I didn’t love it, but I found it to be sessionable enough to enjoy with my meal.

Tap. Bitter, but very one dimensional. Aroma was weak and focused only on grassy hoppy. Not complex in flavor, just bitter and bland. Not spicy as some bitters.

on tap–pours an off white head and amber color. Aroma is sweet light/medium malt, biscuity, some tea/herbal. Taste is sweet light/medium malt, biscuity, tea/herbal hops.

UPDATED: APR 11, 2010 Rerating this one after about a year and a half, as this was one of the reasons I haven’t been to this place in over a year. Pours a clear caramel brown. Nose is all caramel and toffee, no hops. Sweet caramel and bitterness. Still unexciting. Still not fully attenuated and heavy. Cleaned up a little since the last time, but not great.

Original rating: 5/3/4/2/9

On tap. Pours a copper to dark brown color without much head. Smells of burnt malt and little else. Smooth in the mouth, but rather flat, leading into a disappointing finish which elicits the first appearance of anything hoppy or bitter, and not much of it at that. I haven’t had this beer in a while, but I recall years ago it being a much more solid choice. Heck, if it didn’t come out of the tap flat and they just hopped it a bit more it would have picked up an extra half a point.

The beer pours a clear light copper color. Aroma is bark, some sweet apple/rotten fruits, with some hops trying to break through. Taste is mineral and vegetal with a light body.
Brewpub sampler.

Umm not the best bitter I have tasted, not very bitter or hoppy, but, nice and smooth with soft carbonation. Not bad

I wasn’t going to rate this beer because I believed what I received was not representative of what the brewmaster intended. However, after sending it back as undrinkable I was told by the waitress that 4 other people has tasted it and that 3 of those people made a face while the front end manager said the beer was supposed to taste the way it did. It tasted like it was brewed in a dirty diaper pail. There was a bit of a sour flavor up front and a diaper pail aftertaste. The beer looked nice and there was some lacing from the few sips I had. I feel that there was a problem with the yeast. Beyond that the beer was bitter, but had no flavor from the middle addition of hops nor any hop aroma. A very poor effort that should be poured down the sewer.

Very low, sweet, soapy, floral, lavender aroma. Clear copper coloured body is topped by a fine bubbled white head. Mildly bitter floral, soapy hops with stale notes of cardboard. Medium light body with soft carbonation. Sampled on tap at the brewpub with Olivier_MTL and Rastacouere.
