Draught @ Brewpub: This one pours an opaque, very dark brown color. There was a very small tan head, and almost no lacing. It has a lighter aroma. Chocolate malt and earthy notes. Draft at the brewpub yesterday with lunch. Nose of light cocoa. Slick and shimmering black in the glass. I sent it back due to the overwhelming decay and funky rotten vegetable taste that overtook the second half of the mouthfeel. I nearly spit it out. I asked the waiter if they had cleaned their lines lately. He looked at me strangely. I stated that I thought that it was off a bit. He stated that it wasn’t. My first thought was then..."so you regularly serve sub par beer" I asked for the Oktoberfest.....While they didn’t blink when I asked to exchange the beer. They did come back and ask if I liked the Oktoberfest. I stated that it was "OK", and the waiter replied "yes it is truly excellent isn’t it?" I nearly threw a fork at his face. Aroma: The nose is fairly sweet, toffee, roasted malts, and a touch of fruit
Appearance: It pours a fairly dark brown-black color with a bit of tan head
Flavor: The taste is fairly sweet up-front flowing into a roasted malt finish
Palate: It has a fairly light body, but isn’t watery at all, it has a smooth feel, and low carbonation
This was probably my favorite thing that I tried here, a fairly enjoyable and well-made brew. I thought it was a solid Schwarz, and I enjoyed drinking it.
On tap at the Hyde Park Brewery. Pours a deep black with a medium sized beige head. Metal and chocolate on the nose. Toast and light grain. Toast and coffee in the body, thin and watery. Grainy and a bit of chocolate and some light cereal flavors. Sightly off plastic and vegetal flavors that are standard for HP’s beers. Not as bad as the rest of them though, it seems the darker malts often cover up some of the more glaring flaws in many of their lighter offerings. Soft sweet finish. Drinkable at least.

Mild, sweet, lightly vegetal aroma. Clear, dark brown coloured body with a low but lasting, fine bubbled, off white head that leaves some lacing. Chick peas, sweet malts, creamed corn and herbal notes with light bitterness in the mouth. Medium light body with soft carbonation. Sampled on tap at the brewpub with Olivier_MTL and Rastacouere.

Couleur brune aux reflets rouge foncé, bonne quantité de mousse beige pale. Grains hautement torréfié…se dirigeant dangereusement vers le brûlé. Sucré en bouche et semble en effet oxydé. Sensation aqueuse, corps mince, étalement très court. Plutôt maladroit. Évidemment pas le même calibre de produit que ceux qui sont décrits par d’autres membres au bas de cette page.
