Black pour with tan head from growler fill. Aroma is roasted malts and brown sugar. Taste is lots of roasted coffee with a nice hop finish. This was damn good.
Not surprisingly, this beer is black. Roasted malt and chocolate make up the bulk of the aroma; itís really not super hoppy. Maybe a hint of earthy and floral hops. As with the nose, roasted malt dominates. Faint floral and grassy hop flavors with only a mild bitterness, but that could just as well be from the grain. Not one of the better black IPAs Iíve had, but compared to some of the other I & I beers, this is a winner... Hophead22 (2879) - Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA - JAN 21, 2012
Tap at the brewery. Rating #1. Dark black with a nice tan head. Nice aroma, light roast with a good hop presence. Flavor is similar, medium bitterness with a nice balanced roastiness. Good stuff. (2124)
