UPDATED: OCT 27, 2007 Vibrant, hazy amber. Smells typical BW. Crystal malt and grapefruit with an undertone of fruity yeast. Loads of citrus. Light earth and chocolate. beerguy101 (5360) - Newark, California, USA - SEP 25, 2002
Deep brown color, medium head. Malty with a strong hop finish. Rich and complex flavor, nutty and chocolaty, yet with a distinct hop spiciness. Full bodied. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Finish is dry and hoppy. Not a lot of alcohol bite, despite an 8.5 % alcohol content. jercraigs (10591) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 17, 2010
2010-07-01. Hazy dark orange with creamy small beige head. 3+ Flavour of sweet malt, caramel character that could be on purpose or show signs of oxidation. Light bitterness throughout, very light alcohol. 6+ Modest aroma, light citrus/resin/caramel blend. Overall impression is similar to other West Coast Barleywines and I can never tell if its on purpose or a sign of age, as I am not overly fond of how it comes together. Alcohol grows as it warms. 6+ Smooth average palate. Bottle at Stumbling Monk, Seattle mcberko (18080) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 2, 2011
12 oz. bottle, split with Matts_Property, pours a somewhat hazy mahogany with a small ring of beige head. Aroma of toffee, candied dark fruits (plum, raisin), caramel - not really hinting at much hop character. Flavour of maple syrup, toffee, candied fruits and just enough hop character to balance out the sweetness and prevent it from becoming cloying. Thick, viscous, syrupy palate, with only a slight alcohol burn. A little too syrupy and after a while, a bit cloying. Solid barley wine. decaturstevo’s stevofest part 2. Sample from a bottle thanks to decaturstevo. Clear red, whitish ring. Sweet raisiny caramel aroma. Taste is more of the same but off somehow, plastic Suttree (6418) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - APR 11, 2010
My notes say "aweful", which would seem to imply that this beer if full of awe, or somehow worthy of awe. Sadly, this is not the case, and was simply a misspelling, alas. tronraner (2459) - Walland, Tennessee, USA - APR 13, 2010
