[500ml bottle from Iceni Brewery Shop] Pinkish-orange, no head and a slight fine fizz. Smells quite sweet, but on tasting is actually dry (evidence of the cranberries?). Summer fruits cluster in the background. There’s a hint of sour bitterness that doesn’t quite work with the sweet, dry finish, and makes me wonder if the cranberries are there to hide a below-average wheat beer. However, it’s still a decent beer and I like the idea of dry cranberries to and a crisp dryness to an already refreshing style.

Had this at the Cambridge beer festival, wasn’t taking too many notes that day. Have been less than impressed by these guys in the past. This didn’t contain much of the fruity flavours but it really held onto the dryness of the cranberries. It lent something very different from a hop dryness. More of a red-wine tannin fuelled bite.

Cask, gravity, at Northamptonshire Beer Festival ’09. Bright red with a nasty pinkish head which looked as if it was composed of soap bubbles. Oddly the aroma I picked up was heavy old fashioned malt and yeast. Rather a thin taste: some wheatiness perhaps. Mid bitter finish. No sign of cranberry, except in the lurid colour.

Cambridge BF 2007. Vile pink stuff reminiscent of the stuff dentists used to force upon me a child.

Cask handpull at Fat Cat, Norwich. Orangey/red colour with lasting thin pink/white head. Not a huge aroma. Some cranberry fruit in mouth. It’s alright. Not much cereal. Some hop presence on finish. It’s fine

Bottle, from the Little Beer Shop, Ludlow, Salop, 10-03-07. Poured a wonderful pinky red colour with a large white head. Nice fruity nose, taste was a really good, crisp, and with a slightly sour taste, quite pleased to find that it wasn’t artificially sweet, tasted like a good wheat beer, really enjoyed this.

Bottle. Still pale tomato juice looking beer with a light head. The aroma is cheesey and fruity (if this is what cranberry is like it does not smell nice), the flavour is sour fruit and slightly dry. Overall a very sour beer, quite weird.

TheGrandMaster (2335) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - FEB 27, 2007
Tasted at the Luton Beer Festival, clear and very pink with a white filmy head. A sweet fruit aroma of boiled sweets. A light mouthfeel, a bit bland in flavour, like watered down cranberry juice.
