KyotoLefty (10311) - Kyoto, JAPAN - JUL 4, 2010
Draught at the Tanabata Beer Festa Toyama, 2010.
Cloudy dark brown, almost black, with lace. Chocolate and dark malt aroma, with some dry, earthy hops. Rather faint. Easrthy chocolate flavor, some minerals and funk, dust, vegetables like cabbage. Doesn’t really work.

Bottle: Dark black, a nice light tan head and nice lacing. The nose is sharp with a bit of astringent roast and cherry, some cocoa and coffee grounds. The flavor is dry and vegetal with some light roast and astringency, dry and thin body; lacking a thick mouthfeel. The finish is earthy, a bit of roast and fading hop bitterness. Good nose, the body wasn’t any better with this age but I imagine a bit more hop bitterness would add something nice. Good. Thanks Dan! IslandHaole (1273) - Misawa, JAPAN - SEP 26, 2007
A dark brown color with a smallish tan head. Nice roasted coffee scent, some lactose sweetness. Roasty but not much else going on. I call these "One trick pony" beers, one dimensional without alot of complexity. I’m not a huge schwarzbier fan and this one was average at best. Smelled very good, but tapered after that.
