Woody toffee in the nose with slightly medicinal herbs. Tawny color with a quickly fading tan head. Fruity and woody. Old leather and bitter herbs. Notes of tarragon and burnt toffee with a vegatal bitterness behind it all. Finishes with a bit of alcohol heat and mulled fruit.
Bottled at RBJG park session. Looks like soy sauce, but with more head. Smells like soy sauce, butwith grassy hops underneath.Surprisingly slim with lots of roasty flavours. Salty, but with low hop rate and long caramelly finish. A very unusual beer. KyotoLefty (10688) - Kyoto, JAPAN - FEB 24, 2009
Rather faint aroma of sour apples, hops, earthy caramel. Dark brown with a huge tan head. Burnt flavor,with slightly sour apples, caramel, almost no maltose at all. Rather sour as well. A little more caramel and a touch of sweetness came out as it warmed. Very earthy, bitter hop finish with burnt sugar. This is certainly a very original tasting beer. Can’t say I much care for it, but interesting as hell.

UPDATED: SEP 30, 2008 A beautiful dark beer. Listed as an iPA more like a strong ale. A JSA perhaps? You really have to try it on tap. A bizarre Japanese take on English Strong Ale that misses the mark by a country mile and yet is still utterly fascinating. A real headscratcher, this one. It shouldn’t work and yet somehow it does. It looks much as it should - classic English-ale brown with a fair head. But the aroma announces that this is going to be something unusual. It’s herbaceous, floral, rich with golden syrup sugars and quite unlike any other ale I’ve sniffed. Oily body with muted carbonation. The flavours are vegetal, which should be disastrous and yet isn’t. "Mossy", suggested Linc, and I can’t improve on that. My notes say, "green", "primeval", "flower beds" and "Brussel sprouts", which sounds ghastly, yet I rated it 7/10 for flavour. All in all, this is a very quirky ale. Bottle, cgarvieuk coolbeans party. Golden chestnut, thin offwhite head. Under-ripe pineapple, rice and coconut dominate the nose. Mouth is coconut, pineapple, plastic, rice and hop. Finishes hop/malt balance, slightly peppery malts. No alcohol, garlic salt. Bizarre, but definitely something I’d have again.

UPDATED: JAN 24, 2008 Bottle at home with Tom ... pineaple fresh coconut nose ... odd there something i really like about it but cant quite get what it is ... light sweet interesiting ... i think Toms right with ,some mangetout in this . wow, i know ive not really described it and done it justice, but its real interesting and unusual. Bottle at cgarvieuk’s shack of party banter. Aroma is cucumber thats been stored in water in the fridge, freshly smashed coconut flesh, hints of lemongrass spice, Taste is like a grassy hay kind of cucumber peppery like mangetout, mini corn stir fry, perhaps even the freshness of wasabi. UPDATED: DEC 11, 2007 Deep, clear amber with a medium, full head. Aroma is sweet fruits, malty, some spice, and finally hops. Smooth, full body. Flavor is fairly malty, fruits, bready, grapefruit. (Nov 05) A clear, dark amber colored brew with a smallish tan head. A mild spicy hop scent, some pine but not overpowering, cardamom pods come to mind. Smooth feel, lightly carbonated. A tangy hop flavor with a touch of coppery, mineral saltiness. A very traditional British style. Just a touch of sweetness in the middle but still the tangy mineral salt taste is there, like sections of grapefruit dipped in salt but mild. A tasty follow and a mild bittersweet finish. What a pleasant find in bland lager land!
