COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Oatmeal Stout takes its place as our ever-present dark ale. Rich and creamy, with a bitter finish of forest fruits and coffee. A nose of treacle, chocolate and smoke, named for the abundance of Celtic runes found on the rocks on the moors surrounding our historic town.

Trolleo (1911) - Pula / Zagreb, CROATIA - FEB 3, 2018
Sweet licorice aroma along with the coffee and some bronhi candy. Oily black with minimal sized brown head. Roasty taste, coffee and milk chocolate. Thin body, soft carbonation. Finish leaves a nice roasty aftertaste. //bottle at Craft Room

Bottle from the Offie, Leicester. Extremely dark brown, opaque. A ring of khaki head encircles the glass. Turkish coffee grounds, earth, light notes of chocolate fudge and vanilla. The initial sweet taste turns bitter on the back of the tongue toward the finish with more vanilla, coffee and prune in the aftertaste. Highly carbonated, which is perfect for this beer. Gorgeous stout.

Leighton (23093) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 26, 2018
Bottle at home in Hackney - sourced from Beer Hawk. Pours deep brown with a moderate, foamy tan head. The nose has light ashy roast, chalky cocoa. Light sweet flavour with crunchy milk chocolate, bitter ash, baking cocoa. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Drying finish, with more ashy roast, bittersweet chocolate, scorched earth. Maybe a little basic but not bad.

Marko (6385) - Split / Zagreb, CROATIA - DEC 1, 2017
UPDATED: JAN 18, 2018 Bottle. Black body, off white head. Soft malty and caramelly aroma, full and nice. Clean, full yet soft classic stouty maltiness, quite lovely. Hah, wasn't too heavy on those notes at this point, but this was definitely a very tasty beer, perhaps the best Ilkley I've had yesterday. 7/4/7/4/14

Update: On tap it wasn't as thrilling for some reason, still looked good with its black body and creamy tan head, toasty, cocoa and some chocolate cookie in the aroma, still solid, vaguely fruity. The taste was, however, a bit disappointingly light and dry, chocolate cookie and a bit of toast, oats perhaps, but huh, not as captivating as it was on the first go, but not far from it. 7/4/7/3/12. Putting a score in between the two, rounding up.

Bottle at Beerdock Leek. Pours a Aroma of dark fruits, liquorice, burnt caramel, some roasted malts, slight chocolate, a hint of smoke and subtle coffee. Taste of liquorice, burnt caramel, chocolate, some roasted malts, slight dark fruits, a little smoke and subtle coffee. Medium bodied and soft carbonation. A dryish, chocolate caramel bitterness in the finish. Complex, which I wasn’t expecting. A lot of sweet chocolate and caramel but a bit of spice, fruit and smoke. Very good.

Dark brown big frothy head. Taste Americano coffee chocolate hint of liquorice bottle from booths.

sarauckelman (550) - Durham, Durham, ENGLAND - MAY 13, 2017
Dark opaque black with a very quickly dissipating head. Primary aroma is smoke, but it’s not a nice smoke, it’s an ashy, cigarette smoke. Bitter, with a very flat flavor profile. Overcarbonated. It didn’t work.
