COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Prepare for your palate to be victimized by HAYWIRE, a Double American Black Ale brewed with 10-pounds of hops per barrel, and a special process using hopped wort as mash water. Centennial, Citra, Zythos, and Falconer’s Flight hops fill this beer with notes of citrus and sappy pine, while the malt brings hints of toffee, coffee and cocoa.

750ml bottle just opened. Pours nearly black with a full, mucho head that sticks. Aroma has notes of resin, dark malts, slight grain, caramel, and well-faded hops. Taste is balanced but sweeter with notes of dark fruits, caramel, dark malts, slight chocolate, and a drawn out, rich ending. No trace of the 11.5% Medium-full body with a medium carbonation. Full, rich, and creamy in the mouth with a bone dry finish. Overall, for as old as this it, it is pretty good. Hops are well past prime but the 11.5% has kept this beer pretty good.

Pours black. Dark foamy head that dissipates. Love this beer. The perfect marriage of hops and malts. Piney, resinous hops on first taste followed by a dark, toasty finish that lingers. Fantastic! Indeed, MPLS.

Bottle [thanks Geoffrey!] @ home shared with Dutchdrebus to celibrate his 4000th rating. Opaque black color, full sized thick beige to light brown head that lasts for a long time and leaves fair to good lacing. Aroma is malts, hops, lightly roasted malts, a hint of cocoa. Taste malts, roasted malts, hops, bitter, lightly warming alcohol and quite some (piney) bitter in the finish with a nice roasty touch. Medium to full body, medium carbonation. Very nice indeed!

This is a stupendous beer! Dark color with thick foamy head with staying power. Plenty of hops balanced with the tasteful blend of coffee and cocoa. Absolutely delicious!

Pours a dark brown, nearly black color with a nice two finger dark tan head. Slight mahogany around the edges. The conditioning on this beer is excellent. Nice tight head. Even though this beer is over 5 months old, the nose on this is TREMENDOUS! Immediate bitter citrus notes that are overwhelmed by giant pine....so much pine, all the pine in the world. That pine gives way to a nice coffee, toffee almost chocolate sweet aroma. The taste up front is bitter citrus which again gives way to a massive middle of the mouth bitterness of pine which actually rather quickly rolls into coffee before the citrus comes back and finishes in a nice toffee chocolate sweetness. There is a nice sticky residue on the lips that is very stout reminiscent. The body on this is medium full and there is no, I repeat no trace of the 11.5% alcohol. Excellent.

Tap. Tulip at bulldog. Black with tan head. Sweet and some toffee smell. Bitter dark chocolate to go with maltiness. Finishes bitter and slightly sour. A lot going on.

On tap at Republic 7C, pours a dark brown/black with a large tan head. Aroma is heavy on the pine and citrus hops with a solid dark black backing. The hops really hit you up front on the this one bitter and resinous and subside in malts of coffee, and cocoa. Damn good!

Bottle @ home. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is pine and roasted malt. Flavor is piney, hoppy and roasty malts. Better than last year, in my opinion.
