750 ml bottle via trade with mattyb83 - Pours a dark brown color with a long lasting large tan head. Nice lacing. Aroma is pine tar, slight burnt malt, and light fruity esters. Flavor is pine and floral hops with some lightly sweetened roasted malt. The malt sweetness lingers a bit in the finish. Medium body. A very nice beer. Thanks Matt. Tap at Northbound. Dark brown pour with a nice full khaki head. Chocolate malts, molasses, and citrus hops. Really well balanced. Nice full palate. Awesome. Pawola22 (3262) - Woodridge, Illinois, USA - OCT 25, 2012
750ml bottle from mattyb83, thanks Matt! Pours a black body with a very slight reddish hue. Finger-width, very dense and creamy, darker brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is juicier citrus hops with a bit of a sweet orange, pine resins, plenty of chocolates, a light toffee, and a nice roast backing. Flavor is similar. Lots of juicy citruses with a light sweetness, plenty of chocolate malts with a bit of a toffee backing, pine resins, and a firm, but balanced roast. Finishes dry and moderately bitter, but loaded with citruses and a light malt sweetness before leaving a very lengthy aftertaste. Medium, soft body and a somewhat creamy, moderate carbonation. Overall, this is a pretty damn great Black IPA. Very soft throughout and really well balanced, but loaded with juicy citrus hops, chocolate, pines, toffee, and roasts. Awesome beer. On draught at the Indeed Brewing Company’s taproom in Minneapolis, MN. Pours an opaque dark brown (nearly black), with an average sized tan head that slowly dissipates to a film top and beige ring and some spotty lacing. aroma of more 3-C’s hops. Citrusy, grapefruit and some spicy hops that hides the toasted dark malt profile. Taste is full bodied, definitely a strong black IPA character with mostly citrusy and spicy hops that overpowers the toasted malt flavor. Finish has a lingering spicy hop aftertaste with some alcohol presence followed by a dry citrus and malt aftertaste. definitely more of a black IPA than their regular Midnight Ryder. burgy (460) - Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA - OCT 31, 2012
Aromatics are deep in burnt malt and finishes with caramel... Pours deep dark brown with a nice thick head that disapates quickly. Taste of deep roasted malt with a nice hop background... Palate is nice and balanced. Overall nice deep winter brew.

Pre-release bottle, that’s how I roll. Pours a dark brown with fairly big tan to white head. Aroma is hops and chocolate orange candy. Taste is loads of hop bitterness up front with some molasses, candy sugar, luke warm coffee notes and some lager type mouth feel. Overall, probably my favorite "black IPA" even though I loath the term and most of this style beer. This really worked and considering I’ve had a couple bottles, I’d go back to this anytime. From bottle, had many times on tap. Pours a dark brown black with a medium tan head. Aroma of spciy resinous hops, citrus, with a solid chocoalate roasted backing. Taste upfront is tons of resinous hops and bitter grapefruit which flows nicely in too choclatee, toffee, molasses, and roasted malts. A supercharged Midnight Ryder, yum!
