COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Midnight Ryder – a hat tip to Bischoff’s son, Elliott Ryder – is cloaked in mystery and full of surprises. A style of disputed origins and merit, American Black Ale puts a distinctly American twist on the India Pale Ale with five varieties of malt that give this dark beer a medium body and a complex array of flavors including caramel, chocolate and a smidgen of roast. Sealing the deal are six varieties of American-grownhops added throughout the 90-minute boil. This beer offers a resinous and piney character with just enough citrus to bring balance at the finish line.

Poured from the can at Icehouse. Beautiful dark pour with a thick had. Aroma is roasted chocolate and coffee... Almost too roasted, tastes a bit burnt. Long bitter aftertaste. Good overall but could have used a bit more sweetness to balance the bitter roasted taste.

St. Paul, Mn - Wine Thief & Ale Jail - 12 oz. can. Deep dark as coal pour with a thick sticky mocha colored head. Aroma has some eggy accents, a brief touch of spruce. Flavor is full bodied and delicious. Nice bittersweet citrusy accents, a touch of licorice, some minty rye accents, some nuttiness. Thick, rich mouthfeel. Very decent.

12 oz can. BB 11/03/16. (Happy Harry’s) Fargo, ND.

Dark brown color with a red hue and moderate size fluffy tan head.
Chocolate, roasted malt, mild coffee, mild hops, some bitterness and sweetness in the aroma. Nice... really nice. The flavor is roasted malt, coffee, hops, moderate bitterness, some chocolate and licorice. This is tasty. Yummy. Just a little thin. Just a little. Not much. Just a little.
