Pours a nice dark cola color with a tall brown head, has some decent lacing as well. Has some subtle coffee roast and chocolate scents, taste is similar with the nice pine bitterness coming in. Similar to their day tripper with some nice roast, prefer this one.

UPDATED: NOV 11, 2012 Aromatics were deep and malty. Pours a deep jet black with brown head. Taste is deep and caramel tones. Palate is nice and full. Overall great brew pantanap (3366) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 11, 2012
On tap at the source... Pours just a barely transparent deeper cola hue, lesser intense edges, and topped a frothy off-white head... Citrusy hop aroma and a mild cocoa and roasted malt profile. More of an emphasis on the former... Flavors are more of the same. Hoppy green fresh citrus with a balancing roasted chocolatey malt presence. Less than medium bodied with adequate carbonation. Can. Pours black with tan head. Aroma is piney with nice chocolate and coffee aromas. Flavor has a nice hop start with solid chocolate and malts backbone. Very good black IPA.

Black color with a small head. Strong piney hop aroma. Very strong bitterness. Piney and dank. Light roasted malt. Very dry. I personally loathe Black IPAs... and this one sold me. joeneugs (6371) - Livermore, California, USA - DEC 25, 2012
Can from khoffman43. Thanks again Kyle! This one pours a very dark brown color with a lasting frothy tan head. The aroma is wonderful with lots of piney and citrusy hops accented by chocolaty malts. Potent and complex. The flavor is extremely bitter with strong spicy and piney hops, hints of grapefruit and coffee. The finish is bitter with a good dose of roasted malt. this is one of those beers that reminds me how good this style can be when done correctly. I’m really digging this new brewery! mcberko (17178) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 2, 2013
12 oz. can, sent from khoffman43 (thanks Kyle), pours black with a fairly small tan / light brown head. Aroma is super roasted, with dark roasted malt and burnt espresso, atop some harsh citrus hops - lovely nose. Flavour brings out bitter, dry cocoa, dark roasted malt and slightly burnt espresso, with some fairly potent sprucey, piney hops to balance, leaving a super dry and highly roasted, slightly bitter finish. Delicious black IPA - this is how you do them right. mixmasterob (1057) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - JAN 8, 2013
Can thanks to Santa. Dark brown pour with a fluffy beige head. Aroma was full piney citrusy hops mixed with a nice toasty dark malt kick. Nice balance. Flavors were hop forward with notes of chocolate and roasted malt. Nice velvety mouthfeel, light to standard carbonation. Really excellent stuff. Paired nicely with a Papas Fritas. bhensonb (15079) - Woodland, California, USA - APR 4, 2013
Can from Guerde. Pours black with a creamy light tan head. Aroma is a bit chocolate and smooth dark malt. Hop might be resin. Med body. Main flavor is resin followed by med dark chocolate. Fairly strong flavors. Finishes with a lot of hop bitter over a touch of sweet roast dark malt. Very different - very good. Thanks Andy.
