As a young boy in the 1940s, Cliff Fyffe used to Comtemplate the old, broken whiskey barrels in the Evan Williams Distillery Yard. He noticed the barrels were sweating out the aged Kentucky whiskey in the summer heat. The whiskey would pool in the barrels in amazing quantity. Cliff shared this memory with the Indian Wells Brewing Co. founders, Rick and Greg, who suddenly had an inspiriation! They reached out and contaced Evan Williams Distillery directly and ordered a dozen, 55 gallon, used oak barrels that had held their flagship whiskey for two years. Indian Wells Brewing Co. then left these barrels in the direct Mojave Desert sun until the whiskey sweated out. When the barrels were ready, they brewed a special amber style lager by using their own natural artesian spring water, filling the whiskey barrels and allowing them to lager down to 34-degrees for months. The beer in this custom designed 1/2 gallon growler is the result; our own delicious whiskey barrel aged amber lager. It pairs well with BBQ and is just great for sipping. We hope you enjoy drinking it as much as we enjoyed making it. Cheers, Rick and Greg

Bomber from hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. Very stubborn wax. Mid brown and hazy with a creamy beige head. Whiskey aroma from a distance and vanilla from closer. Nice aroma. Flavor is like a whiskey lite. That dominates. Some wood and plenty of rich malts. Tannins and fruit with caramel. It is quite mild to drink. Raisins or figs along with a sourness. Alcohol is completely hidden. Had a difficult time trying to figure out what to think of this. It is very pleasant to drink but not delicious.

Shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat. Pours a rich amber with as big head with low retention. Decent lacing The nose shows the barrel aging with wood and bourbon. Medium body. Despite the high alcohol it is not tasted. Flavor is rich caramel malts, vanilla, some fruit seemingly cherry, and vanilla. The finish is s little sweet and the fruit kind of turns to raisins and dates. This is nice beer and I think the fact i have had it for a year means it has aged well which may have helped it. Very easy drinking for such a high alcohol beer. A winner.

Draught at the brewery. Pours clear amber with a medium, frothy off-white head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma is moderate caramel and cookie malt with whiskey notes. Flavor is moderate caramel and cookie malt, whiskey, oak, dates, light earthy hops and bitterness with a sweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

Most of the bourbon aging is present in the aroma, which is better helped with a thick head. The head, while a Lacey beige, is ephemeral atop an amber body. Behind the vanilla scent of the bourbon are fruits: cherries, pears, or apples mixed with caramel, which is the first hit of the taste. Sour apple turns to sweet caramel, followed by the malts. The tang of the lager helps with a smooth finish and a taste of wheat. This beer is perfect for a couple of years in the cellar to bring out more of the bourbon and malt.

Bomber, thanks Christina! Huge caramel and toffee malt aroma with light notes of whiskey, vanilla and oak. Pours a beautiful dark chestnut color with ruby hues and a thin tan head with poor retention and some lacing. Starts with heavy toffee and caramel malt sticky sweetness. Finishes quite smooth with light whiskey, vanilla and oak present but it is hard for these flavors to cut through the sweetness of the malt. Enjoyable and I don't get the metallic taste that other reviewers found.

Another bland Indian wells brew. Don't let the wax on the bottle trick you. It has that homebrew tap water metallic taste. Light bourbon taste but overall stale malt flavor with little to no hop presence. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Punertavan lagermainen, lhes hapoton ja vaahdoton. Tuoksussa aivan vieno makeus. Maussa tiskivett ja saippuaa, yksiulotteisen vetinen ja mausteinen suutuntuma, jlkimaku tylpp ja mitnsanomaton. Voittaahan tm perus suomilagerit mutta vain niukasti.

Pours dark orange with a small head. Aroma of malts, metallic notes, hints of berries and bourbon. Taste is sweetish, malty and stuffy with some hints of berries and sweet toffee. Finish is stuffy, sweet and messy. Sweet and messy.

22 oz bottle. From a supermarket in Ridgecrest, CA. Clear amber color with a tiny light tan head. Sweetness, toffee, metal and watery maltiness in the aroma. The flavor is sweetness, malt, berries and some honey. Watery. Where's the whiskey? Bad. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

65 cl bottle (dark red wax) @ ISKTR V.
Pours clear amber color with a small head. Ripe fruit aroma, lots of sweet caramel and some toffee notes, whiskey isnt really present. Quite watery and messy, some bland malty and grain notes with faint sweet fruits, some cardboard too. Alcohol fairly well hidden. Not very good.
