Sampled during St Crispin's Day Feast, paired with rye and seeded nut toast, fried scone, hopped honey, rabbit rillette, white turnip mustard, black plum jelly, spiced pepitas, herb butter. The beer itself was dark clear brown, roasty coffee ground aroma and a soft roast taste with a dry finish.

500 ml bottle. 7.2%. Thanks to Maple Leaf Timo!
Clear dark reddish brown color with a small tan head. Sweetness, toasted malt, some coffee and some dryness in the aroma. The flavor is sweetish coffee, sweetness, toasted malt, some fruity sweetness and some dryish cardboardy notes.

50 cl bottle (7.2% abv) @ Timo A.
Pours dark brown color with a small off-white head. Cocoa and coffee notes on the nose, mild fruity tones, caramel. Flavor is bitter cocoa and malty, chocolate, oat, subtle vegetable tones, maybe the coffee has gone too old here. Gets slightly worse as the beer warms up.

Guest tap at Tooth and Nail Brewpub. Pours a nice big frothy tan head and has a fairly dark amber appearance with reddish highlights. Thick dirty lacing. Aromas of light toasty malts, resin and earthy hops, hints of coffee. Flavours are mainly malty, toasty, some nice notes of coffee, dry fruits, resin hops. Smooth and slick mouthfeel. Average carbonation. A very faint smokey like finish. Pretty good.

On tap at Indie Alehouse. Pitch black with thin white head that disappeared. Smells of roasted coffee and chocolate. Very smooth mouthfeel. Tastes of roasted coffee and chocolate. One of their better beers.

Not usually a porter person, but this is always a consistent great beer and a great bottle to have in the fridge. Dark chocolate brown in colour and notes, has some coffee hints and roast - but smooth, so smooth. Could convert me to porters if they all tasted this good.

UPDATED: FEB 27, 2017 Tap at Indie Alehouse in Toronto. Sweetish, roasty, nuts and cocoa. Body lightish medium. Some faint bitterness in finish, also ashy dry. A classic, albeit a bit too sweet and low on the sourish roasty black bread crust I look for in a Porter. Enjoyable nonetheless.

Again, tap at Hop Brewco. 7.2%. Brown with smallish creamy head. Thick lace. Lovely thick sweetness and the distinctly portery berryish sourish notes. Roasty but not anywhere nearing burnt. Starts off smoothly but then a bitter and strong roast attack. A tad bit harsh but all in all quite tamed. Maybe the alcohol is what I mean by harshness but i’ts OK when alcohol shows a bit in a +7 ABV brew. Carbonation softish but definitely there. Absolutely lovely. Love such thick, soft and dense Porters. Upping the score from 3.4 to 3.7.

On tap at Indie. Pours black with an off-white head. Rich coffee aroma with notes of cocoa and dark fruit, toffee. Roasty coffee flavor turning into toffee, chocolate, and dark fruit. Really pretty impressed with this one; took a couple bottles home.

(tap) clear very dark brown colour with a small brown head; aroma of roast, fruit; balanced flavour with a long light bitter finish

Johnsense (1755) - - FEB 15, 2016
UPDATED: JUL 22, 2016 Dark pour, smaller head. Cocoa and nut in the aroma, roasted malt. Chocolate up front, coffee like bitterness, oatmeal, roast. A little too sweet and a tad to thin but still worth exploring.
