Bottle from the brewery. No head. Typical Christmas cake-y aroma. Great body. Not as dry as some. Malty, nutty, fruity. Good one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2013-01-02 - on draught at Indie Alehouse. Slightly hazy copper with a smallish creamy semi-lasting beige head. Smells somewhat sweet - caramel with some floral bitterness, not a lot of yeast or spice character in that aroma which is a bit disappointing; wan (7-). Taste is ... candyish, with a hint of floral soap ... just a bit off to me. Light, almost watery body, sorta sweet, lightning-fast body ... overall a bit disappointing, needs more body and stronger dubbel character. Not terrible, just ... lacking.

On tap at brewpub. Fairly clear brew with a burn amber colour. Malted aroma and yeasty esters of banana and some barley like fruitiness come through. On the palate it is slightly sweet in a classic style, barleyed but sports a fast finish. It is a decent beer.

Tap at indie. Pours brown with some head and limited lacing. Nose is sweet, like caramel. Notes of raisin, brown bread. Taste is medium sweet low bitter. Thick body with medium carbonation.

Spab (3845) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 18, 2013
On tap at the brewpub. Pours a dark brown with rubyish edges and modest-szied off-white head. Aroma is sweet dark fruit and brown sugar. Flavour is fairly sweet with lots of brown sugar character, some dark cherry and other dark fruits and a little toffee. Fine carbonation. Body a hint above medium. A very drinkable dubbel.

Deep amber pour with a thin white head. The nose is nice and fruity with a little bit of plum and fruity with a bit of cherry and pear character. A bit of spice but leans fruitier than spicy. A bit of lingering sweetness on the finish but not at all cloying.

UPDATED: JAN 30, 2014 On tap at Bar Volo. Usually beers are better as they warm, not always. Cold I was getting more mouthfeel, more spice including pepper and nutmeg. Warmer, it was thinner and sugary tasting. Yeast yields bubblegum flavours.Brown, lace. Had it, smoother and better,a couple months later at the brewpub

[5048-20130102] Tap. Mild sweet cola roast aroma. Clear, dark red amber body with a quick foamy white head. Sweet gummy candy flavour is surprisingly simple. Medium body. Really interesting disconnect between the aroma and flavour. (6/3/7/3/14) 3.3

2012-01-02. Crisp dark brown body nice tan head fades a bit. 3++ Sweet lightly sugary malt and modest alcohol. 7++ Flavour is similar, pleasantly sweet sugary malt is more subtle than expected. Just a touch of dusty caramel malt in the finish. 7++ Smooth average plus to medium body is just a touch lighter than my preference but nice. 3+ Pretty solid. Looking forward to trying this again closer to the beginning of an evening. 16+ On tap at brewpub

Balanced, well-done dubbel. Smells of bread yeast and some dark fruit - raspberries. Pours dark brown with lasting creamy head and medium lacing. Taste has perfumed bitterness and some booze. On tap at brewpub.
