Bar Hop dark beer event. This hits the style of bourbon aged brown beers. The Bourbon and booziness is paramount. The base beer is ordinary. So-so drinkability with this type of beer. solidfunk (9363) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - MAR 12, 2013
This is good stuff. Strong sense of bourbon here. Pours pretty black with some lacing. Drinks on the syrupy side. Aroma of cask, hops, musky roast malt. Carbonation just how I like it - slightly below average. Finishes a little sweet and boozy with some bitter hops. On tap at barhop. jercraigs (10731) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 12, 2013
2013-03-10. Very dark brown near black body, modest tan head. 3++ Fairly interesting aroma of green hops light vegetation mild brown ale grains, oatmeal like notes. Second glass is sweeter and maltier on the nose. 7++ Flavour is similar - Lightly dusty oatmeal brown ale grains, modest hops and bitterness throughout, light fruit. Bourbon barrel character is quite mild, and the alcohol is near invisible! Very smooth average bodied palate suits it well. 3++ One of the only ones I went back for seconds of today, very nice. Huge Bourbon but in balance and not ’hot’ but big. Great light notes come through, can taste the wood, bourbon, vanilla and brown ale base.
Unlike most barrel aged beers, not too woody or stale. JoeMcPhee (9515) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 11, 2013
Deep brown pour. The aroma is nice. Lots of vanilla and some toasted barrel character. A touch of toffee and cocoa along with the toasted malt. There is a fairly assertive bitterness on the back. It’s pretty nice stuff.
