A light and fruity beer with notes of candied apple and marzipan. The combination of biscuit malt and citrus hops tingle the palate only diminishing after the first sip to allow the signature Innis & Gunn vanilla and oak notes to shine through. Because of this combination of Scottish malted barley and mouth-watering zesty American hops, ‘Independence Day’ beer is a great partner to BBQ dishes.

Bottle sample at a tasting at kerenmk’s place. Thanks beerandbeyond. Clear copper-amber color with an off-white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, candies, vanilla, a bit of coconut and fruits. Sweet flavor, malty and candy-ish, with vinous notes and lots of vanilla. Medium-bodied.

Jabic (661) - Plainfield, Vermont, USA - SEP 21, 2012
Ar: Pineapple, butterscotch, skunky. Ap: Clear orange - small white head with poor retention, a bit of lacing. T: Deep caramel and light toffee up front, very intense - medium-sweet, with a hefty malt backbone, very toasty - finish is biscuits with a medium-low bitterness - some tropical fruit, apple, plum, and vanilla. P: Medium-full body, medium carbonation - finish is medium-dry. O: The aroma disserves this beer, because it really tastes amazing - the depth of caramel, toffee, malt, and fruit flavor (and more!) is astonishing and absolutely delicious.

Bottle sample. Clear copper color, small off white head. Aromas of malt, marmalade, mild sweet citrus and oak. Juicy malt flavor, candy, vanilla, wood with low bitterness. Medium bodied, full flavored and rich. Good beer.

Bottle. Pours reddish amber with off white head. Nose/taste of candied fruit, oak, vanilla, malt, toffee and citrus. Medium body. Nice beer.

New Beer Distributors, NY 330ml ($3.25): Pours a light amber with a quickly dissipating head. Oak, vanilla, and malt are the two things going on in the aroma. There is definitely a strong barrel-aged taste throughout. Hops are very light. Malts are proper. Easy to drink and interesting enough as well.

The aroma is malty and boozy with some butter scotch and oak. The appearance is light amber with a medium head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is smooth. Overall it’s interesting.

Palidor19 (3193) - Brandon, Florida, USA - SEP 9, 2012
great beer with a low aroma but high in taste. it has a taste of sweet malts with lots of nutty flavor and caramel. all malts yet no hops. its another winner for IaG

MmmcKay (1052) - Brentwood, Tennessee, USA - SEP 9, 2012
A bit more subdued with sweet oak than some of the other innis and gunn beers. The barrel influence seems to be a bit more in balance with the rest of the beer. Vanilla, whiskey, malt.

Dogbrick (13547) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - SEP 5, 2012
Thanks to Rogueone for sharing a bottle. The beer is a clear dark amber color with a thin off-white head that diminishes quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing on the glass. The aroma is malt, oak and caramel. Medium body with flavors of sweet caramel, oak and bready malt. Slight hops in the background. The finish is clean with a short oaky aftertaste. Decent overall.
