A light and fruity beer with notes of candied apple and marzipan. The combination of biscuit malt and citrus hops tingle the palate only diminishing after the first sip to allow the signature Innis & Gunn vanilla and oak notes to shine through. Because of this combination of Scottish malted barley and mouth-watering zesty American hops, ‘Independence Day’ beer is a great partner to BBQ dishes.

[Bottle from Beers of Europe] Chestnut with a large beige head. Rich and oaky throughout, with butter and vanilla in spades. Some toffee, a little red wine, but mainly the oak. It may be a little sweet and sticky for some, but I do like these beers, even if their special editions such as this are simply minor variations on their standard theme. Good stuff.

Aroma is a nice malty scent but not too much oak barrel. The oak in the flavor is subtle but very nice. Bubbly on the palate. Bitter but short aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPod Touch

Notes of oak vanilla barnyard biscuit and skunk. Interesting beer that grows on you ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottled. Poured medium amber with a nice off-white head. The aroma picked up sweet vanilla, caramel, and buttered toffee with fresh green apple and earthy accents.. sweet overall. The flavor found sweet caramel, vanilla, and a little maple at the core.. dry oak throughout.. finished with caramel, vanilla, and lesser bourbon sweetness plus a little tangy pepper. Medium-bodied and quite sweet on the palate.. ok flow to it.. higher carbonation.. decent brew.

(bottle). A nice surprise from Todd to wind down the summer. Aroma and flavors similar to original but dialed down a bit for the summer season and mellowed by oak aging The mIld but rich and sweet malts make this one tough to session over the long-haul. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Brown pour with tan head. Vanilla, and fruit and berry like sweet aroma. Finish is mellow with light wood and sweetness. Flavor is complex but not overbearing, sweet and full of malt.

Bottle pour into tulip. Big, fine, persistent head. Aroma: vanilla and whiskey. Taste: candied fruit, vanilla; sweet oak on the aftertaste. Very interesting, but I am glad I didn’t buy a six-pack.

Pours a dark amber color with no head. Aroma of vanilla, dark fruit, and toffee. Dark fruit flavor with toffee, and vanilla with hint of wood. Nice beer!

Pours medium slightly deep medium amber with more of the orange hues coming through with a good frothy head. Aroamas of banana candy, light rum, hint of whiskey, caramel, touch of vanilla, and slight toffee. Flavors of light whiskey, light banana(candied)-like ester, light toffee, light caramel, and light dry hops. Lightly sweet, complex, different in a good way than expected(thought it would be more of a mostly whiskey flavors), clean finish, and a light bitterness. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. The whiskey notes are nicely mellow and come out well in the mix of other flavors and aromas.
