A light and fruity beer with notes of candied apple and marzipan. The combination of biscuit malt and citrus hops tingle the palate only diminishing after the first sip to allow the signature Innis & Gunn vanilla and oak notes to shine through. Because of this combination of Scottish malted barley and mouth-watering zesty American hops, ‘Independence Day’ beer is a great partner to BBQ dishes.

Draft. Woah. Buttery mouth feel, pleasant bakery-like aroma. Beautiful orangish gold color. I love this. You actually do sense the "aged" in a barrell part, too. If you see this, try it.

"Vanilla, oak, slightly sweet fruity malt and a roux of floral hops are the main players in the flavor. Not much of the back end bitterness in the aroma. Like most of the others, pretty smooth with the barrel aspects light and enjoyable. "

(bottle - 330 ml) Copper pour with a thin white head. Sweet malts and a lot of vanilla and caramel in the aroma. Sweet vanilla and oak at the start of the flavor with a caramel and toffee middle and a very lightly bitter finish. Even for its age you still got a lot of oak and vanilla flavors.

Usual I&G appearance - clear dark amber with pure white head. Aromas of almonds and menthol. Less sweet than most I&G. Little carbonation. Finish cooling menthol.

THOUGHTS: Way better than I was expecting. A very uncommon set of flavors and aromas for a beer. Unusual and delicious. Alcohol was noticeable, but in a a good way. It ages nicely for at least a little while but the hop aroma drops off a bit if you do that.
TECHNICAL: Drank 2/24/2013. Bottle. Poured a clear, medium amber with nice carbonation and an average, off-white head that mostly diminished. The aroma contained heavy dark bread, toast, molasses and caramel; light citrus hops; wood; vanilla; alcohol; and whiskey. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and slightly acidic; while the finish was nearly heavily sweet and lightly bitter with a little longer than average duration. There was caramel molasses, maple syrup, vanilla, wood, whiskey, citrus hops, toast, dark bread, cake, and whiskey cake. The medium body was fairly oily with tingly carbonation and a lightly alcoholic finish.

Piwo o koniakowo brandowym aromacie. Kolor pododny do koniaku z lekkim odcieniem czerwieni. Piwo to jest wytrawne z mocna koncowka i lekkim alkoholem. Wyczuwalne smaki pochodzace z aromatu amerykanskiego chmielu. Bojna ale nie trwala piana. Szkockie ale w limitowanej przezroczystej butelce jest ogolnie bardzo dobrym piwem. Polecam delektowac sie nim nie tylko w dzien niepodleglosci.

Overall, after the vanilla oakiness, its not much.

On tap. Pours a clear deep amber color with two fingers of white head. Aroma of vanilla, oak, and caramel malt. Taste of sweet grains, vanilla, and a backbone of caramel malts and oak.

Clear amber pour. Strong aroma of whiskey upon first opening. Hint of vanilla taste and slightly hopier tasting than most offerings from Innis and Gunn. Another hit from a great Brewery though:)

mkel07 (6440) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - MAR 27, 2013
330ml bottle from Warners at the Bay Bottle Shop. Strong whiskey aroma fills the nose. Dark copper in colour with an even layer of tan foam. Big alcohol hit with a whiskey aftertaste that lingers.
