3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
From a 330ml bottle on 8/11/2012. Pours golden with a tiny head which disappears immediately. Has a sweet malty aroma with toffee, caramel and vanilla all present. The flavour is similar with lots of sweet toffee and caramel up front, along with a touch of booziness, The oak is quite noticeable, with the beer exhibiting a light but distinct scotch whiskey like finish. The bitterness is medium and the texture is slightly oily. An interesting and enjoyable beer.
Bottle. Clear copper amber color, stable creamy white head. Herbs, honey, cookies, floral, a bit soapy and skunky. Pretty sweet, almost cloying, malty, flavors of honey, vanilla, herbs, alcohol, wood, mild bitterness. Medium bodied, smooth. Interesting flavors but way too sweet and not easy to drink. ruuurd (277) - Utrecht, NETHERLANDS - SEP 21, 2017
UPDATED: SEP 21, 2017 The label is spot on: dark beer with hints of toffee, vanilla and oak. Especially the oak is subtle and nice. Great amber pour as well! MelvinKalksma (1630) - NETHERLANDS - SEP 20, 2017

Slight/medium aroma of malts, caramel, wood and vanilla.
Clear/hazy golden/amber beer with no/a slight off-white head.
Medium sweet with malts, caramel, wood and vanilla.
This beer is rather intense and balanced, but lacks complexity. Does not taste like its barrel aged, but the duration could be the explanation for this. Way too filtered as well for my liking.
UPDATED: SEP 21, 2017 Bottle. Clear pale golden with white head. The aroma has notes of caramel, honey, minerals and black pepper, earthy, hint of wood. Sweet flavor with notes of caramel, honey, citrusy hops, some wood, alcoholic and earthy. Medium-bodied. BierBobCat (9) - - SEP 18, 2017 does not count

Expectations: 'luscious flavours of toffee, vanilla and oak perfectly balance the beers malt backbone & light hop fruitiness'
Were expectations met: No
Not really that vanillery. It was more hoppy and toasty and even malt whiskey-ish. I felt the bubbliness overpowered the flavours and any vanilla-ish-ness. You know its not a bad Scottish Beer - its really good but the description on the bottle is what let my expectations down.
Will I be drinking it again: No

Bottle at home, bought at the Lidl. Nice amber color, cream white head. Nice taste, a bit like a Belgian ale like Palm. BojanM (11) - Banja Luka, BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA - SEP 18, 2017
Svijetla amber boja, više boja vinjaka. Pjene skoro da nema. Arome vanilije, drveta i hljeba, osjeti se i alkohol. Veoma blage gorčine, više je slatkasto. Srednjeg tijela, definitivno dobro pivo! tricksta_p (4879) - Steenwijk, NETHERLANDS - SEP 16, 2017
Bottle from a local Lidl. Aroma is malt, lots of vanilla, subtle oak, caramel toffee, butterscotch, and notes of whiskey. Flavour is sweet with hardly any bitterness. Body is medium. I did not expect to like this, but it's not bad. AcctError487384 (54) - - SEP 14, 2017

Bottle from my neighbor. Sweet, boring oaked beer. Not particularly strong or oaky. Malt forward, no perceptible hops. Bland and unremarkable. Would drink again for free.
