Originally brewed at Belhaven for Innis & Gunn. Production moved to Wellpark - date unknown.
NOTE: This is the same beer as the Oak Aged Beer Rum Finish. According to Innis & Gunn "they are the same beer, the process changed slightly so we changed the name. But the recipe is the same."

Ingredients: Golden Promise and Crystal malt; Phoenix hops.
We are delighted to present this unique limited bottling of Innis & Gunn finished in oak barrels which previously contained navy rum. Maturation in special oak barrels imparts Navy rums with the sweet, spicy character for which they are renowned. We have long wondered what flavours might be imparted to our beer by finishing it in these same barrels and earlier this year we decided to find out. We brewed a special batch of Innis & Gunn beer and matured it in oak for 60 days. Every single drop spent half of that time in American oak barrels before being refilled into selected navy rum barrels to finish the lengthy maturation. Once the beer had absorbed the unique character the barrels were emptied, the beer blended and then maturation continued for a further 47 days until all of the flavours had married together and mellowed. We think the result is absolutely delicious!

330 mL bottle. Pours a dark mahogany, a fine head that dissipates quickly to a thin covering. Great aromas of allspice, baked pineapple, molasses and caramel malt. Sweet and fruity with a little spice, not much hop here, but has an acidity that cuts through the richness. Full and smooth on the palate, medium carbonation with a clean finish.

Pours a deep brown with some redish highlights in it. Beer retains no head. Aroma has a strong sweetness too it. Slight smokey oak nose, a modest amount of rum sweetness, some toffee and grassy/moss finish. Flavor starts out with strong malty sweetness with very strong woody notes. Rum creeps up in the middle with a very smooth plum and prune fruitiness at the finish. Beer is smooth, oily thick with the perfect amount of carbonation. Finish on the beer is slightly dry with a strong residual sweetness that really hits in the back of the tongue and throat. Overall a pretty good brew. I think it’s a bit on the sweet side but its well balanced and the flavors have time to develop on as you drink.

Very similar to the regular oak aged beer, but sweeter, not as refreshing or smooth. An ok beer, dont think i’ll get this one again.

A very average beer at best. Aroma was skunky. There was definitely wood and rum notes but the underlying skunk smell killed it for me. Pour was a beautiful dark ruby red with a few off white blotches for a head. Taste was decent. The wood and rum are very strong and pronounced and overshadow the sweet maltiness. I originally rated this lower and after slowly drinking it realized I was comparing it to/expecting an American beer. For a style that I don’t care for (English strong ale) it’s actually very tasty. Nice carbonation round the beer out.

Bottle. Rich, amber brown with a lot of fizz and a light head. Rich, smooth roasted malt flavor with a hint of spice. some sweetness and a nice effervescence.

It has a great, smooth taste. You can really taste the rum from the barrels they age it in.

kragelund (107) - , DENMARK - JUN 21, 2012
(Bottle 33cl) Pours light brown with a dense quicky disappearing head. Aroma of Rum, cane sugar, bittering hops and alcohol, that blends to something that reminds me of danish blue cheese! Flavour of rum cane sugar some wood. I think the beer lacks some power to match the rum.

redpooba (406) - Texas, USA - JUN 20, 2012
A mellow dark ale with a light froth head. Had hints of oak barrels but needed more time for the infusion. Also the body was present but lack distinction. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
