COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Pasteurised.
Originally brewed at Belhaven for Innis & Gunn. Production moved to Wellpark - date unknown.
NOTE: This is the same beer as the Oak Aged Beer Rum Finish. According to Innis & Gunn "they are the same beer, the process changed slightly so we changed the name. But the recipe is the same."

Has also been seen at 6.8% (Rum Aged)
Ingredients: Golden Promise and Crystal malt; Phoenix hops.
We are delighted to present this unique limited bottling of Innis & Gunn finished in oak barrels which previously contained navy rum. Maturation in special oak barrels imparts Navy rums with the sweet, spicy character for which they are renowned. We have long wondered what flavours might be imparted to our beer by finishing it in these same barrels and earlier this year we decided to find out. We brewed a special batch of Innis & Gunn beer and matured it in oak for 60 days. Every single drop spent half of that time in American oak barrels before being refilled into selected navy rum barrels to finish the lengthy maturation. Once the beer had absorbed the unique character the barrels were emptied, the beer blended and then maturation continued for a further 47 days until all of the flavours had married together and mellowed. We think the result is absolutely delicious!

UPDATED: MAR 14, 2016 At Red Lion. Not a oak bomb and not very boozy. Subtle notes of both but it works well and makes for an easy drinking booze barrel ale. Sweet and slightly sugary from the rum. Dark amber. Serving: Bottle

Bottle at home. Very tasty vanilla notes and of course some rum but there definitely could be more flavour of rum and others.

Bottle at JDWs in New Malden. Pleasant sweetish malt with vanilla hints but theres something a bit artificial tasting about the finish.

Bottle @ home. ramato carico, praticamente marrone limpisa, schiuma beige fine, non molto persistente. Aroma inteso, fine, burro fuso, diacetile, tostato, caramello, toffe, mou, cacao, liquore. Gusto dolce stucchevole, zucchero di canna, burro fuso , caramello, tostato, legno/vaniglia. leggerissimo amaro, solo da tostatura. acidulo. Corposa, poco carbonata, calda, rotonda, decisamente piena. Non del tutto equilibrata , sin troppo diacetile, ma armonica nel suo complesso.

This is the 6..8% Rum Aged, not the 7.4% Rum Cask. 11.2oz bottle. Pours amber with a medium, frothy beige head. Too sweet aroma of toffee, butterscotch, and wood. Taste is sweet toffee malt, rum, a tiny bit of grass, and a little bit of wood. Woody bitterness lingers in the finish. Medium body. Lightly carbonation; goes flat pretty quickly. Oily mouthfeel. Not a lot of character gained from the oak chips and the taste doesnt have much depth to it, but it is moderately enjoyable overall.

Oak aged like no other beer eh? I guess so if they mean on oak staves or chips and made to be sold in a supermarket. For all the marketing spiel, Innis and Gunn make mass produced beers under the guise of something special and they taste like it - cheap extracted flavours; their wood ageing tastes fake when compared to barrel aged beers, like vanilla essence versus a vanilla pod. Anyway, ranting aside, it pours amber with a very forced carbonation head - like youd get on a cola. Smell is of malt and rum food flavouring. Taste is of rum food flavouring and malt. So theres the complexity of this beer. Finishes on a bit of malty rum food flavouring. I enjoyed their white oak wheat beer more. this is a waste of life. I know its nowhere near the price-point of, say, the Brewdog Paradox Compass Box but even at that beers expensive tag it still offers better value than this.

Bouteille 33cl, V&B Grenoble.

Amber colour when is poured, standard to low carbonation with a small white head, at nose some nice vanilla and oak notes are felt, at palate medium body oily texture with a strong roasted malt flavour followed by a persistent bitterness that get well balanced with the rum flavor that appear just at the end giving an alcoholic and sweet aftertaste.
