COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Pasteurised.
Originally brewed at Belhaven for Innis & Gunn. Production moved to Wellpark - date unknown.
NOTE: This is the same beer as the Oak Aged Beer Rum Finish. According to Innis & Gunn "they are the same beer, the process changed slightly so we changed the name. But the recipe is the same."

Has also been seen at 6.8% (Rum Aged)
Ingredients: Golden Promise and Crystal malt; Phoenix hops.
We are delighted to present this unique limited bottling of Innis & Gunn finished in oak barrels which previously contained navy rum. Maturation in special oak barrels imparts Navy rums with the sweet, spicy character for which they are renowned. We have long wondered what flavours might be imparted to our beer by finishing it in these same barrels and earlier this year we decided to find out. We brewed a special batch of Innis & Gunn beer and matured it in oak for 60 days. Every single drop spent half of that time in American oak barrels before being refilled into selected navy rum barrels to finish the lengthy maturation. Once the beer had absorbed the unique character the barrels were emptied, the beer blended and then maturation continued for a further 47 days until all of the flavours had married together and mellowed. We think the result is absolutely delicious!

Pours a copper color with a small, creamy head that fades quickly. Aromas of malt and alcohol, although I can’t say the aroma itself was distinguishable as rum. Big rum flavors at first taste, but a somewhat flat, watery finish. For the price, I’d opt for something else in the future.

Thin fizzy head of beige bubbles. Sweet malts, butterscotch, light spices, roasted grains and brown sugar. Color is a slightly hazy dark mahagony brown. Rather dry palate and thinner than expected. More spices, dry chalky grains, a bit of pasty malts, light rum and some crusty bread. Light alcohol presence. Finishes dry and a little astringent. Can’t imagine any hops in here. A decent brew.

UPDATED: JAN 14, 2018 11.2 oz bottle from backlog notes (2013). Pours a clear amber/copper color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor caramel, dark fruit, light rum, light wood, pale malts, nothing bad, just soft.

Grumpelmies (431) - GERMANY - JAN 6, 2018
UPDATED: JAN 6, 2018 Bottle. Dark ruby/mahagony with a decent white head. Some lacing. Aroma of rum, wood, brown sugar and dark fruits. Taste is rum sweetness, malts, a little bit of wood, some raisins and sugar. The rum is really present in this one. Medium carbonation. Balanced but I somehow wish it had something more to offer. Still nice though.

I tried this from a brown bottle and it is labeled 6.8%. Dark amber color. the aroma has brown sugar and sweet malt. I do find this warming. Alcohol in the aroma as well. Flavor has malt sweetness, and sugar, I can taste the rum. Nice palate. The alcohol is there but not overwhelming. Well done.
