Tallahassee, Fl. - on tap at the Florida Beer Invitational - Proof Brewing. Dark black pour, thick khaki colored head. Aroma has some licorice, a touch of toe jam. Flavor is full of roasted goodness, with some licorice, black French Roast Coffee. Flavor is a tad overwhelming with it’s brute coffee onslaught. Thick enough mouthfeel, much better than expected. Kudos to Intuition, . UDBeernut (2883) - Saint Johns, Florida, USA - SEP 6, 2014
Another taste from my sampler pours very dark, medium smokey nose. Taste continues smoke, chocolate, espresso. Medium body, smoke lingers. Aurelius (5335) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - JUN 27, 2014
This came off with too much acidity, in general. Lost my notes, but it started to stick and I didn’t quite finish it. On tap, baby Proof, upstairs. LilBeerDoctor (3931) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 29, 2014
On tap at the brewery. Pours a dark brown with a thick tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate malt, roasted peppers, citrus. Flavor of roasted malt and chocolate up front with citrus and earthy hops in the finish. Very tasty black IPA- although it is an imperial, it is not too strong or sweet. Very drinkable.

Had this on tap at Royal Palm. BIPA is one of my favorites. This is a little thin for what I would expect from the look. Good flavor and nice smell. Average. Foxbush (2029) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - SEP 9, 2013
Draft at the brewery The ale poured a deep black in a sniffer. There was modest lacing from a creamy tan head. This was a wonderful experience. The complex black IPA had aroma of choclate and coffee. The medium body ale had average carbonation. There was a bitter finish with moderate alcohol warmth. Some aftertaste of coffee and licroice on the tongue. This is a black IPA worth trying.

Draft... RBWG 2013... Midnight black ale with a mid-sized, creamy, mushroom-colored head. Fantastic retention. The aroma boasts malty components of chocolate and toasted nuts. Full-bodied with soft carbonation. Both the flavor and finish are acrid, burnt and bitter. There’s a clinging charcoal aftertaste. JCB (3999) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - APR 22, 2013
On tap at Kickback’s, JAX. Pretty nice pour, a thick but not overly sludgy brew with reddish tints and a silky head. Nose is quite resinous with just the right addition of roasted malts to avoid the drawbacks of many examples of this style. Grapefruit rind and pine meld nicely with the understated roasts in the taste, almost like that bit of peel that sometimes makes a good espresso. But there’s considerably more hops than that suggests, a modest imbalance in exactly the right direction, making this a pretty fine black IPA.
