Deep brown pour. The nose is sweet and slightly roasty with a touch of cocoa and some nice roast. A bit of herbal character and a touch of plum on the finish. Burnt sugar and some dark malt. Nice beer.

tombyars (1802) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - NOV 14, 2017
Tasted this in the Beer Kitchen, Glasgow (Innis & Gunn taproom) on the 6th November 2017. Keg dispense, 1/2 pint. Ruby black in colour with a thin off white head. Malty aroma with notes of sweet molasses on the short nose. Thin creamy mouthfeel and good lacing. Dark malts give a moist treacle sponge base with syrupy prunes evident. Slight earthy damp note to the hop resins which impart a smooth bitterness to the aftertaste. Smooth malty finish with treacle toffee and sweet syrupy prunes flavours to the fore. A cracking session porter.

Hand-pulled in Bennet's Bar, Edinburgh. Pours dark, black thin head which disappears soon. Strong coffee aroma continues through to a coffee flavour, along with some roast, malt. Very good!

Bottle: Very deep amber coloured with a ruby sheen, medium-sized stable beige head, moderate bitter-sweet nose of toasted malt and coffee with some fruity spots; dryish bitter-sweet flavour, low acidity, nearly medium bodied, pretty soft; lingering toasty and coffeeish finish with some sourish fruits. A proper Porter...

A reddish brown porter with a thin lacing mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate malt with loads of dark fruits, plums, molasses, light coffee and soy sauce. In mouth, a nice bitter chocolate with coffee grind, light dark fruits, powdery character, nice and smooth. Bottle from LCBO, Bb January 2018.

[9124-20170406] 330mL bottle. Toffee and fresh sugary burnt caramel aroma. Dark brown black body with a medium-lasting lasting bubbly tan head. Toasted sweet grains flavour has an almost sickly burnt ash caramel finish. Full body. Interesting but not a fan of the finish. (7/3/6/3/12) 3.1

jercraigs (11166) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 6, 2017
2017-04-06. Dark brown body, modest frothy head. Aroma is relatively mild at first, lightly dusty dark malt, hints of treacle, very light roast. Flavour is interesting, sweetish base up front, hints at treacle followed by light roast and bitterness through the middle and a kiss of fruit in the finish. Very smooth average plus bodied palate, soft carbonation. Thinner than my preference for the style but works for it for the most part. 7/3/7/3/14 Bottle from the LCBO, Toronto.

Bottle. Clear dark brown body, medium mocha head with good retention and lots of lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, burned caramel, roasted nuts, hints of leather and earthy leaves. Taste of burned toast, caramel, vanilla, leather and herbs. Fine brew.
