Rusty chestnut. Everlasting dollop of lathery foam clings to the glass with each sip. Intriguing, brilliantly nuanced nose of treacle, soft peaty smoke, cookie, hazelnut, Band-Aid, Turkish figs, fruitcake, barnyard. Phenolic and lightly medicinal, as well. Snug, pillowy, meringue-like carbonation. Leathery flavors accompany an irony, wild-yeast derived twang amid softening whispers of figs, hazelnut and distinct smoke. Shimmering splash of tropical fruit succulence enlivens the ensuing toasted coconut laced with vanilla bean and fluffy nougat. Dry twinge of cookie malt deftly anchors itself amongst the slippery fruitiness as it provides satiating depth and quaffablity as well as an artfully placed sharpness. Staggeringly deep though equally delicate malt is chock full of mouth-enveloping smoke and dextrins, and captivating textures and flavors akin to almond skin and sugar cookie continue to unravel thanks to the pristine extraction. Late sweep of savory tobacco and spicy cedar adorns the ripe plummy esters and perpetual tropical fruit juiciness. Finishes cleanly attenuated yet throughly satiating with fat, multilayered maltiness and a nonintrusive nip of well-measured sugars. A real oddball this is, and I say that with wholehearted praise. There’s enough rustic allure here for a small bottle to capture your attention for a couple hours. At least it did mine. Fascinating stuff.
Lightly hazed dark amber color with a moderate, but dense light beige head. Heavy smoke and mild iodine. Hints of caramel. Quite dry with mild toasted malt and a gentle smokiness. Actually more smoke in the nose than in the flavor. For a bock, I would like a little more malt depth, but still an easy drinking smoked brew. 1/12

Nah, didn’t work for me. Others raved about it, but was a bit odd. I struggled to find the smokiness, but maybe I smoke my fish a bit too much and expected a sledgehammer. Slightly too sweet Niko100 (2981) - Chicago, New York, USA - SEP 10, 2015
Dark amber/cider color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of campfire, smoked meat, & some chocolate notes; Flavor of smoky sweet malt, caramel/toffee, some dark fruit, and light spice; Pretty decent brew. jmgreenuk (9863) - Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA - SEP 4, 2015
Draft at Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a clear dark amber with a thin white head and a little broken lace. The aroma is sweet sticky treacle toffee malt light yeast. The flavour is moderate sweet with a sweet, light smoky malt, floral alcoholic bitter palate and a lingering bitter sweet finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation. More like a barley wine than a smoked ale. The smoke was barely detectable. GlassBrass440 (321) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - JUN 8, 2015
2014 vintage. Pours a clear, deep amber with a small eggshell head that quickly gives way to the sides of the glass. Aromas are of caramel malts, toast, honey, and smoke. Flavours are somewhat savoury with a smokey phenolic component gently backed by more caramel malt sweetness and some bitterness. The finish is quite short with only a lingering tang and slight caramel sweetness.

Orange/brown appearance, little to no head retention. smokey nose, almost like honey smoked bacon, delicious if you like that sort of thing. taste is sweet, savoury, (almost a umame taste), hints of grass and herbs. Sits well in the mouth and quite a light and thorough mouthfeel.
would match perfectly with some Red Leicester cheese. or smoked ementhal.

"this scores pretty dang good on RB (95) but I didn’t particularly care for it. You know who sets the bar in this style and I didn’t think this beer could hold that beer’s jock. The smoke was nice, especially in the aroma. Pretty aggressive, but the overly sweet and slightly cloying body and flavor made me think this is a one-timer for me." zach8270 (4021) - Henrietta, New York, USA - AUG 22, 2014
(bottle - 330 ml) Orange pour with a thin white head. Huge smokey and meaty aroma. Not much else detectable. Flavor is a ton of the same meaty and smokey at the start with a very subtle sweet malt underneath. kiwianer (3428) - Otorohanga, NEW ZEALAND - JAN 31, 2014
The head is medium, the body dark brown. It smells smoky, darkmalty, raisin, bit brown sugar-sweet. The taste is brown-sugar-sweet, bit bitter, darkmalty, creamy, bit smoky. 1FastSTi (3361) - Glendale, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 27, 2014
This is a fantastic beer. Pours to a deep rusty colored body with a tall creamy off-white head. The aroma is nicely smoked and definitely pungent. Kind of like it is beechwood smoked, but I see Manuka. The flavor is sweet caramel and definite smoke. But, the smoke is delicious. I really am digging the smoke flavor. Very unique and sweet. Very nice palate that finishes pretty clean.
