Specialty release from this brewery, housed next to the Schloss Irlbach; the brewery has been taken over by Arcobräu Moos meanwhile. From a 50 cl bottle that was part of a sixpack of different Bavarian beers, thanks Glenn for bringing me this straight from the Munich airport. Thick, egg-white, very regular head, lightly lacing, leaving a dense, moussy rim around the edge of the glass and a landmap-shaped ’veil’ in the middle; cristal clear, pure golden robe, warm with ’old gold’ hue. Aroma of sourish grains, dried camomile, sweetclover, wet kitchen towels, sourdough, hints of rainwater, grass, minerals, old cloth, wet paper, margarine, mashed potato, soap, white pepper. Crisp, minerally onset, some very restrained ’malt fruitiness’ and sweetish graininess right from the start with an underlying ’generic’ and very soft sourish touch, medium carbonation tingling on top of the tongue, souring a bit. The ’cereally’ malt sweetishness evolves further in the middle with a slightly buttery feel to it, a tad bready but in a ’clean’ way, while the minerally accents keep playing at the sides of the tongue; underneath the pale malt sweetness, a dull sourish graininess lurks, becoming more pronounced in the finish, where mildly grassy and floral hop notes appear as well, but subtly so, as can be expected from a malt-forward Helles. Some resinous, vaguely wormwood-like hop bitterness nevertheless lingers in the throat after swallowing. Straightforward ’Münchener Helles’ - as they all are, at least traditionally speaking - quenching the thirst and delivering what this style represents, in placing a rounded, grainy pale malt sweetness upfront and adorning it with restrained hoppy accents - but nothing more than that.

(bottle) clear golden colour with a frothy white head. aroma of floral hops, nutmeg and chlorine, with a light hint of straw and beechwood smoke. flavour is mostly pale malts, bubble gum and treebark, slightly phenolic, with a medium sweetness, a touch of green apple and a light-bitter herbal-hoppy finish. medium-bodied with average carbonation.

Bottle from the Forever Bury Beer Festival. Golden with a carbonation but not much of a head. Well stated lager but still ordinary tasting. It’s not as strong tasting as you might expect.

Many thanks to McTapps! The beer starts fresh and grainy. Easy to drink with a moderate sweetness. The bitterness in the end is quite neutral but fresh, the malty grains fit in, but the picture is a bit unround to me. Grainy-sweetish aftertaste.

Bottled as a special Bayern bier box from Scheck-In Karlsruhe. A nice Märzen...nicely balanced, good sweet malty depth, and a crunchy toasty crispness which is left in the palette. Good solid beer.

Marduk (8848) - Reval, ESTONIA - JUN 20, 2015
500ml bottle (Alus Tirgus). Clear golden color. Medium size, white head, stays. Malty, nettles, herbal in aroma. Malty, sweet, herbal hops in taste. Soft carbonation. Sweet herbal aftertaste. Quite meh.

500ml bottle (AlusTirgus, Riga)
Fairly pleasant malty aroma. Simple malty body too, dry, and a touch papery. Simple dry body, maybe a bit papery. Simple drinkable bitter lager. Shame it’s so papery, otherwise quite drinkable plain grainy taste. Spoilt by the harsh aspects, but actually not such a bad hoppy lager. Bitter finish is quite harsh.
