When starting an uprising, two is always better than one. Or so I’ve been told. And after you try Dubbel Fisted, you’ll find out the reason for its namesake. While peering into a glass of the deep amber colored brew you’re holding in your drinking hand, you’ll realize that you probably want one in your open hand too. Rich chocolate, caramel, and plum notes are almost too tempting for words.

BMan1113VR (7930) - Los Angeles, California, USA - NOV 15, 2010
On tap at the brewery. Pours with a deep bronze body with no head. Aromas are very spicy (belgian yeast), mild fruity notes, with some brown sugar. Flavors are brown sugar, belgian yeast (and its spiciness), and cloves. The house yeast is very spicy and seems to mask the other nuances I get it most Dubbels. Very undercarbonated.

RedSox2004 (2001) - Pacific Palisades, California, USA - JAN 31, 2017
Muddy reddish brown with a fluffy off white foamy head with good retention and sheets of lace. Aromas of biscuity malt, orange zest, brown sugar, cinnamon and coriander. Flavors follow with rich brown sugars and biscuit malts accompanied by yeasty, orange zest, light cinnamon, white pepper notes, and carmellized sugars. Medium body and carbonation, smooth mouthfeel and a slightl malt sweetness in the finish.

2013 vintage.
Kept this one for a bit. Paid off it seems.
A chalice at cellar temperature. Fiery deepest copper and just shy of bright. Big ’Belgian’ head held the length followed by signature lacing. Prominently earthy, umami, charbroiled beef nose; slightly sweet, twinging of the olfactories with a hit of plum, raisin and muscatel. Light spice of booze with the later long whiff. Creamy mouthfeel; quite full and plump - strange for a Dubbel. Oily and viscous finish. Long bitter, savoury fruit mince pie length. Meaty, umami palate with touches of cocoa and roasted carob, dominant raisin and Shiraz grape. Earthy overall. Holds the alcohol well on the palate but the nose cedes a heat. Enjoyable. Actually got engrossed by it. Lovely!!
