In case youre one of the 3 people that havent figured it out yet, we at Iron Fist are fans of everything unfettered by and silly notions of "tradition". So our latest insurrection is a two-for. We brewed a huge Belgian style Trippel and hopped the (expletive deleted) out of it. Being the counterculturalists that we are, we decisively chose to use the finest imported European hops we could get our hands on rather than the ubiquitous West Coast style varieties. We even threw in some varieties so new they still have that new hop smell. A robust malt character helps balance this truly one-of-a-kind brew.
Brewed for KnB Wine Cellars 3rd Anniversary.

I applaud the experimentation. This is an IPA of the likes of DFH120 -- very syrupy and resiny. The Belgian yeast comes in at the back end, after the hops have faded. I've rated a lot of beers on ratebeer, and it's fun to encounter one of the likes I haven't tried before. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tallahassee, Fl - thanks to whoever brought this to Proof Friday night tasting. Dark orange pour, thick off-white head. Nice spruce-like aroma with hints of nectarines. Flavor is syrupy sweet with some grapefruit citrus notes, a touch of nectarines, maple syrup, some booziness in the back end, Nice thick mouthfeel.

Great label and bomber. Hazy apricot color, thin head. Fruity, tangy, musty aroma, lightly astringent. Great label. Medium-heavy bittering, dryish malting. Complex. Warming. Medium-heavy body, long bitter finish with some absinthe mustiness. Thanks to drowland or some other buddy at the drowland-Tallahassee Winter 2014 homecoming down @ Proof.

Crystal clear golden amber, copper and bronze coloured body with a thin, nice laced tan head. Aroma of immediate belgian yeast, some pungent hops, a lot of alcohol, warm cognac, brandy and some honey - strong nose. Full-bodied; Dense malty mouthful at first with a big hop bite, some subdued fruity and yeast notes with a lot of deep resinous and piney bitterness at the end. Aftertaste shows a lot of alcohol warmth, similar to a scotch, with a deep malty and lightly dry and oaky finish - all with some honey and rather assertive sweetness. Overall, a nice, well-balanced and multi-layered beer with some nice characteristics. A bit still rough around the edges, but that makes sense, and even after a few years, Id think this would still be showing some harshness. I sampled this 37,5 cL split bottle purchased from Super Jr Market (Best Damn Beer Shop) in San Diego, California on 07-June-2013 for US$3.49 sampled at home in Washington on 10-January-2014.

Bottle. Big bottle. Big cap. Big pour of orange-amber. Big (initially at least) head that quickly gives up. Big, big aroma of oak and whiskey. Big mouthfeel. Big flavor of spicy wood, and resinous acidity. Big beer. A bit too big in the varnish aspects for me. (#5346, 12/5/2013)

750ml bottle pours a clear orange with some thin, white head. Nose of... barf. Seriously. Orange, trash, rotten fruit. Flavor is also barfy, rotten fruit, candy, booze. Nasty.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy deep ruby copper color with a 2 finger dense cream colored head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big pear, apple, lemon zest, orange peel, tangerine, grapefruit, light banana, clove, pepper, caramel, honey, candi sugar, toast, floral, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hop, malt, and yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of big pear, apple, grapefruit, tangerine, orange peel, citrus rind, grape, caramel, honey, candi sugar, toast, clove, pepper, herbal, floral, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of pear, apple, citrus, citrus peel, caramel, toast, honey, candi sugar, clove, herbal, floral, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Nice balance and complexity of citrus hop, malt, and fruity/spicy yeast flavors; with a good malt/yeast balance and minimal cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and very full bodied; with a very slick and lightly syrupy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good Belgian strong pale ale. All around nice balance and complexity of hop, malt, and yeast ester flavors; and quite smooth to sip on for the huge ABV. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Bottle: Poured a deep orangey color ale with a medium size foamy head with light retention and minimal lacing. Aroma consists of citrus hops with quite a bit of residual sugar with light spicy notes. Taste is also dominated by citrus notes with light spicy yeast notes and an overly sweet aftertaste. Body is quite full with carbonation that is a bit too low for style and no apparent alcohol. Original concept of this beer appears interesting but lack of attenuation and overly sweet finish ruins it for me.
