Tap in Lancaster, this time 10.5% abv, specifically aged in Bourbon Barrels to differentiate from the ’normal’ anniversary beer that was so often used in the kitchen. Deep cherry that looks black without heavy lighting, no head. Nose port and sherry, brown sugar and heavy grape and plum, heavy wood component with bourbon-grape. Vanilla, caramel, and a huge huge dump of complex malt character, super deep and complex. Off-dry and hides its etoh extremely well (dangerous!). Just a touch of onrushing fumy heat after the red berry and stronger plum and grape enter. Full, fat, sticky body is malt-dominant, some mineral from the yeast. Gorgeous. adrian910ss (2594) - Doylestown, PA, USA - APR 10, 2010
On draft at NW. Pours a dark mahogany color with a medium sized cream colored head. Aroma of candied sugar, dark fruit(raisins, prunes, and dates). Taste of bourbon, vanilla beans, candied sugar, raisins, prunes, dates and malt. Very complex. TomDecapolis (4636) - Milton, Delaware, USA - MAR 23, 2010
Tap at IHNW for 2010 Barrel Aged event. Pours a hazy brown with a smaller off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark fruits, caramel, vanilla, toasted malt, nuts and bourbon. Taste had the dark fruits and caramel up front followed by some toasted malt character and the bourbon/oak/vanilla. The abbey yeast was still lingering in the aroma and flavor. alobar (3912) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 21, 2010
