Poured a pretty clean darkish brown body with a small tan head. The aroma was carmel malts, nuts, and some chocolate. Flavor was lighter chocolate, toasted malts, some carmel, and a peanut butter untertone that seems to take over the finish and aftertaste. Not bad. beerbill (3619) - Laurel, New York, USA - FEB 28, 2008
Growler received from Ty5592 as part of the growler swap. Pours a very deep clear brown with subtle red highlights when held againist a light. Small tan head that disappeared after a couple of sips. Pleasant aroma of chocolate, malt, and almonds. The flavor is very similar to the aroma with chocolate, malt, and some light almond flavor. As the beer warms, the chocolate becomes more pronounced. Very, very smooth with a lovely mouthfeel. No sign of the alcohol at all. Not an overwhelming beer, but certainly very enjoyable. JB175 (1665) - Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 26, 2008
Darker brown pour with a med-lg head. Aroma had a sweet-breadiness with some light chocolate in the nose. Flavor was of an average doppelbock with a nice bit of chocolate thrown in. Good overall, but a bit grainy. Could have been awesome, but was just good. Dickinsonbeer (5074) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - FEB 26, 2008
Tap at North Wales. Pours a woody deep chocolatey brown with a thin lasting off white head. Aroma is initially a typical lager yeastiness from a strong lager- then some nice doughy and sweet toasted and chocoaley malts- some almond nuttiness as well- smells relatively clean. More sharp bocky yeastiness comes out of no where and almsot takes over the chocolate flavors fromt eh malt, but then subsides as it warms- nutty, some caramel and munich malts- light on the hops- some light drying bitterness in the end as well as a light alcohol touch in the finish. Good doppelbock but not great. egajdzis (6672) - Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 24, 2008
Poured a lightly hazy mahogany color with a small, tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, smoke, burnt toast, and a bit of smoke. Taste of roast, smoke, chocolate, nuts, and light caramel malts, with a bit of alcohol in the finish.
