750ml bottle from Maple Shade shared at rb day at the track. Poured a dark blackish brown medium density with a smaller foamy beige head. Aroma of light bourbon, some sour notes, medicinal, wet burnt toast, tar, asphalt and wet charcoal. Medium bodied with average carbonation and a chalky finish. Flavor isnt quite as complex as the aroma, sourness, bourbon, wet burnt toast with light chocolate and some sour black cherry. Bottle from Newark. Extremely dark brown color, small tan head. Aroma of vanilla, chocolate covered raisins. Taste is softly sour prunes, plums, subtle coffee, subtle vanilla. 750 cc from P-ville location. I did not see a # on this, but was told there were only 20 of each. Shared with neighborhood friends on New Year’s Eve. Poured thick hazy black with fizzy khaki head that went away quickly. Nose was roasty rauchy dark malt, tart cherry, bourbon. Tasted of oaky bourbon, vanilla, a lot of tart cherries. Ive had the original in Ithaca and loved it and I loved this beer too. It seems like it’s going to be a lot more complex then you think. Theres just a hint of bourbon and tart in the nose and the mouth is light with the same notes. It’s not overwhelming which isnt a bad thing. The barrel aging gives it an edge and the tart comes through more and more as it warms. All in all a great experience but at 30 bucks a bottle you may second guess yourself. I am sitting on a rum barrel version which I’m more excited for.
